it's too damn cold in my place so i decided to take up folding again. gonna run it 24/7 on my media pc and all day on my main rig. problem i'm having right now is i can't get the gpu client to run on my integrated 9300 on the media pc. it won't auto detect and if i force it to g80 it just fails. i'm running the latest drivers from windows update. any suggestions?

With only 16-cores, that 9300 mGPU isn't going to fold too well even if you could get it to work. :(

Welcome back - can you please post your log file so we can see what is going on.

Looks like 9300's can fold but only average about 670 PPD. I bet you are trying to use the new GPU3 client, I would go back to the GPU2 client and give that a try. However, like Nathan said, we really need to see your log.

this what you need? btw, i'm not using gpu3. i thought that was only for the most recent gen of cards.

What drivers are you running? I was having a lot of problems getting my gpus going until I switched to 260.99.

using the latest windows update ones. it would appear to be 258.96. will try putting 260 on and see if that helps.

no luck. remembered i had a 3870 sitting around so decided to throw it in. same error even with the latest ati drivers. what am i doing wrong??

also, do i want to use gpu3 with my gtx 280s? auto detect doesn't set it.

From what I have read the GPU3 client is awful on the 280's, I have stuck with GPU2 on mine.

I had an 8600GT as my secondary card until recently and could not get the folding client to work on it with anything I tried despite the fact I know it is 100% stable. I guess its just finicky sometimes.

well i hope someone can help me get the 3870 running. i need it as a heater! :)

do not run the GPU3 client on anything other then the G92 or GTX 400 series card's. the G200's suck arse on the gpu3 client. plus the GPU2 client creates more heat :D

i suggest using the 258.96 drivers.

as far as the ATI card you can try using the gpu3 client. it should auto config the flag required to run it. also if you are getting any errors like DLL files missing. you need to go into your driver folder and find those DLL files. copy them and put them in the gpu client folder username/appdata/roaming/folding@home-gpu

From the looks of the log it is crashing as soon as the core is engaged - Is it over clocked at all?

Try deleting the ATICALxx.DLL files in the folding@home client directory. The latest Catalyst drivers may be incompatible with these Brook Cal DLLs.

You can also add the flag to the shortcut or switches -forcegpu ati_r600

IF you have the 9300 adapter enabled you might have to add the -gpu 1 flag to get the ATI to fold as well. If you've disabled the 9300 GPU then you shouldn't have to do it.

I'd suggest disabling it if you aren't using the built-in adapter as running ATI drivers and nVidia drivers and folding with that is possible, but a huge P.I.T.A.

Use the GPU2 client for either ATI or nVidia (outside of GTX 4xx) as it should work better/faster/longer :)

thanks for the reply. here's a screen shot of the current setup and error i get when i try to auto detect.

i've tried manually setting it to r600 as you can see. i get the same unstable error as with the 9300. currently the onboard is totally disabled. obviously if i could get both folding that would be even better. both gpus are stock clocked and totally stable gaming or otherwise. i've tried both the windows update drivers and latest drivers with both gpus and same problem on both gpus. it must be a client problem right?

edit - tried removing the amdcalxx.dlls from the gpu0 directory and same error again.

get rid of the tracker and manually do it with the client downloads from the F@H's site. get the system tray GPU2 client. much easier to use.

http://folding.stanford.edu/English/DownloadWinOther

or keep the tracker but use the normal clients to figure out what the exact errors are. the clients will tell you more then the tracker client can.

done. here's the new error:

this is with the newest ati driver.

might have to replace those ATI DLL files in your username/appdata/roaming/folding@home-gpu folder.

those same DLL files should also be in your ATI drivers folder. just copy those and paste them over the files in the folder i listed above. see if that helps.

hmm weird. you could try the the force gpu R700 flag instead see if that makes a difference.

i havent ran an ATI card on F@H since the gpu1 client days and wont be until they release the openCL client. not really worth it for the PPD or power usage until that happens.

hmm that gives me a different error. folding at home has run into a serious error... same result though. doesn't work. oh well. guess i'll give up on folding on my 3870...

yeah i'd just wait and hope for the openCL client to be released soon. but it probably wont be another 2-3 months before we really hear anything about it being released to the general public.
