I just smashed the screen on my EVO 4G by dropping it. This has never happened to me before with a Phone. I had my iPhone for over 3 years and dropped it countless times from chest height onto the hard floor, never scratched it.

I have the protection plan with sprint that costs me $7/month extra, will I be able to get a new phone? what steps do I take from here?

You call your protection plan number. Assurion perhaps? Sprint? It's in the info.

You might have a deductible or not. You will get a refurb in exchange for your phone most likely.

With that plan you'll get a new phone. Call Sprint.

I have the same plan on my Evo... and I'm keeping my hard case on!

Ahh, thats a good question. Not one I would know about because mine is heavily modified so Id'e handle all that myself anyway.

If you rooted it, you'll want to wipe then lock it to S-ON to avoid warranty issues.

Although if the phone is not operational, it naturally doesn't matter.

When I was buying my EVO from the sprint store some dude brought his in and his screen was cracked and they fixed it. They also have a machine they can plug in and transfer all your data over to a new phone.

YOu don't need to make a claim for the phone, I work for Sprint as a tech and have repaired a zillion EVO screens.

If you're paying the 7 dollar monthly TEP plan or the 4 dollar ESRP plan, you're good to go. Just take it to a service and repair store, and they will pop on a new screen for you. If you scratched up the back, ask them to put a new one of those on as well. It's about a 30min repair at most.

If you don't have a service plan, or the TEP plan, at most they will charge you is 35 bucks for a new screen now under the new S&R policy.

good to know!

Hah, AK beat me to it. I hate when I see someone go through insurance for something that's covered for free in store. I had a customer who paid $300 to Asurion because one of her apps kept force closing, I wanted to smack the woman for being so dumb. Turns out it was just a shit app.

does having the extended battery pack avoid warranty, like if I show up with it on will they not work on it?

I am going on Friday to a Sprint Repair designated store to hopefully get this fixed.
