Well, I got the itch after seeing Newegg 10% off video cards and quickly built a budget upgrade for my c2d e6300 processor + 8 gigs of ddr2 800 ram(brand new). So... how'd I do?

Here's what I purchased:
Hanns·G HZ251HPB Black 25" 2ms X-Celerate OD 1080P Widescreen LCD Monitor
$189.99 (was $239.99)

Arctic Silver Ceramique Thermal Compound - OEM
$5.99

OCZ Fatal1ty OCZ550FTY 550W ATX12V v2.2 / EPS12V SLI Ready 80 PLUS Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply
$49.99 AR

ASRock P43DE LGA 775 Intel P43 ATX Intel Motherboard
$59.99

ECS NGTX460-1GPI-F GeForce GTX 460 (Fermi) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card + Free H.A.W.X2 Tom Clancy Game
$159.99 (After $30 rebate and 10% promo code)

You bought a low quality PSU that probably won't last that long. Same goes for the mobo. What was the exact purpose of buying a new motherboard?

Hopefully your E6300 is OC'd to 3Ghz or so or it's gonna be a huge bottleneck for that GTX 460

All in all, not that great or smart use of money.

What danny said. Not a very good use of your money at first glance.

If you're still running a 775 setup, find yourself a Q9550, but if you can sell your old stuff and upgrade to an i5 setup if money is a real concern.

If you can post your old gear and lets see what can be salvaged and what can be returned.

really???

shit...

well - my old motherboard has a few bent pins... and i wanted to oclock this processor since it can achieve around 200% speeds with oclocking so yea I planned on that... but I thought the motherboard I purchased would be upgradable too down the road - say with a quadcore or something...

is having 8gb ddr2 memory that much worse than the new ddr3 stuff?

fackkkkkk!

I highly doubt that your CPU can achieve 200% speeds considering that's 5Ghz or so.

The problem is that your socket pretty much has little to no cost-effective quad-core upgrades left. Most of the new Intel socket 775 quad-cores are heavily overpriced to the point where you can get an equally fast if not faster AMD CPU + motherboard for a similar price.

Outside of gettting the Q9550 for around $160 and the Q6600 for $100 as well as all the other Intel quad-cores between those price ranges, really not much cost-effective upgrades left.

8GB of DDR2 RAM is not that much worse than DDR3 RAM. However, if you want to reuse your DDR2 RAM in a more cost-effective setup, your only choice, if you can't find the Q9550 and Q6600 at those price points, at this point is an AMD CPU plus AM2+ motherboard.

Any chance that you can cancel your order? It's a really really poor buy.

ddr 3 is faster as well as runs much cooler. just to make you fell better, I say you did ok. heck I'm running a e5200 at 3.7 and I have no real needs to replace just yet. maybe next year, but I think more cores for me, not architecture just yet.

If it were me. I would have at least spent a tiny bit more on the psu. 550w is not going to do much as the video card is going to eat a third of that alone. I cannot say much about the board and such as I just did the same for my e5200 (a replacement for a dead one while not having the cash to re-do an entire system).

that cpu at stock will likely bottleneck your video card. but at least you have a good card to last you through till you can upgrade your system.

What I have is this :

fried video card
DG965WH Intel motherboard with bent pins
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor E6300 (stock, never overclocked)
dead monitor
ULTRA 550W X2-Connect Power Supply (old and really didnt wanna reuse this)
2x2gb g.skill ddr2 800 pc2 6400 5 5 5 15 1.8v-1.9v (f2-6400cl5d-4gbpq)
2x2gb ocz ddr2 800 pc2 6400 5 4 4 @2.1v (ocz2p8004gk)

what's your budget assuming you can cancel an order (other than the monitor).

why did you ask to move this from one wrong section to another wrong section? I mean seriously and sure as hell this is gonna stay here.

wasting my breath but could someone please move this to general hardware?

Okay... since my memory has different timings, should I sell this memory and my old processor? Im thinking I'd probably get around $200 for the processor + the memory... which leaves me with anotehr $500 for everything... so lets say $700

I will need motherboard, processor, memory, video card, monitor, and psu. I will keep my old case, mouse, keyboard...

I really hope you guys stick through and help me now that I cancelled it! :/

At this point, you're looking at a new CPU + mobo + LCD + PSU + GPU. The E6300 is simply too old to keep continually spending money on. What case do you have now? Oh and you won't be getting $200 for the CPU and 8GB of DDR2 RAM. $150 max IMO.
