Just wanted to share that I just ordered the Razer Diamondback in Chameleon Green. I will be giving you guys a review of it when i get it, in comparison to my mx700.

ok yea I have heard of those. It sounded familiar just wasnt too sure :). They are ball mice and not optical correct. I love my MX1000 Laser mouse it would be hard to give up :).

This is actually the second generation of optical mice by Razer. Can't wait until the price comes down a little on these, they look great.

oh ok so they are optical. So hows much I pay attention these last I heard of them was a review with a ball mouse of thiers :).

nope, thier new ones are 1600 dpi vs 800 which is all the other mice that are out right now. The difference i hear also between the mx510 and mx1000 is that one is laser, one is optical, same dpi etc.

'Laser' refers to the light in which the optical sensor operates from. They just switched the LED out and put a laser in. It's not like "laser" is a new technology that you can compare with "optical."

You've read the Boomslang review, it's their old ball mouse.
About the DB well it's nice but I don't think it's a revolution. Lotta people are saying that MX510 (MX700, MX1000 depnds on what you prefer) is still better.
My set is MX510 + Icemat Black 2nd ed and honestly I never used anything better than this two babes!

actualy you would be better off compairing the mx1000 to the mx700 as they are wireless and the mx510 is corded version of the mx700 with a colored top.

The mx1000 is diffrent on the outside it isnt just the laser the shape has been changed for more ergonomical feel the buttons on the side are now the forward and back with the application button nestled in between the two the cruise control is now a rocker that pivots near the wheel which is a tilt wheel now. The battery is built in and is a Lithium-Ion battery and from what i hear it lasts about 2 weeks and takes 2 hours to charge. Oh it also has a on off switch on the bottom.

i really wish they would release a MX1000 Duo then give me one free in exchange for my mxduo

yes, sorry bout that, i understand and know what they changed, i just didnt explain it right, but none the less, i only have the mx 700 right now, so thats all i can do compairson to.....
update...was shipped out today, so i will recieve it pretty soon and a review will come very shortly after...from a true user perspective, not just someone who was asked to review it.

The mx510 is superior to mx500/mx700 in tracking, due to it's increased bit rate (12bit vs 8bit)... the infamous negative acceleration is gone with the mx510.

still better off compairing the mx510 to the mx700 the mx1000 is completely redesigned compaired to the mx700/900

I'd like to see it compared to the mx1000 really. but i'd take just a review of the mouse too. i'm really thinking about grabbing one,

as soon as i get it, the day after, i will post a review of what i thought of it. any games you guys want me to try with it?

hl2, doom3, cs:s and maybe something a bit slower like wc3 or sc:bw

Quake 3 Arena and UT2K4, since those are the games that need that speed the most.

Will definatly be looking at this thread. Might be picking up a Diamondback to replace my Kensington StudioMouse Wireless soon.

Since the mice are difficult to find in stores and really test ourselves, I'd love to have the buttons and mousewheel tested and compared to existing mice so that people may get a better idea of what to expect. When I say compare, I don't mean which is better or worse, since a lot of what makes a mouse "good" is personal preference.

Would love to see a review which says something in the order of... "The mousewheel moves/behaves quite similarly to the mousewheel that of a xxxx mouse" and "The side buttons are similar to that of yyyy mouse."

Also having side by side profile pictures (overhead and side) of it next to the mx500/510/700/900 so we can properly judge the size difference.

A weight comparison between it and other mice would also be nice.

I should get it by next week. And yes, i wont do a bias opion as im not a !!!!!! of any praticular mouse. I just get the one that is the best, which ever one it may be.

i am curious any one who owns a mx1000 does the laser give off any light or is it invisible if it does give off light what color.

It's invisible.

MX700 vs MX1000: Pretty close actually. MX1000 is more sensitive, but is pretty much the same otherwise. The mouse has a slightly different feel to it but not much. MX1000 weighs a little more I think. The battery meter is a nice plus on the MX1000. Chargers are about the same. Side scrolling is kinda awkward on the MX1000 as opposed to the Microsoft side scroll. The MX1000 side-scroll clicks louder and you have to press harder (ie more resistance) than Microsofts mice. Side scroll doesn't work anyway unless you install their software (which I wouldn't recommend unless you really need that feature)

I still don't like cordless mice due to the lag you get on them, and the MX1000 is no different. But if you like cordless mice, the MX1000 is definately a nice mouse to have. I took mine back though, lag drives me nuts when gaming and clicking on small objects.

I'm stuck with my MX310 for now. I don't really like the MX500/510 (this includes the 700 and 1000) as much due to to their one-piece button design. My MX500 and my formerly owned MX1000 both have issues with the buttons not pressing consistantly depending on where you press on it. I get tired of people using my MX500 mouse and complaining that the buttons are hard to press. I say "press it more towards the edge" and they're like "oh, that's better... weird". Hmmm. Yeah, looks cool, but bad design.

So anyway, MX310 has seperate buttons and they click a lot better and easily for gaming... which is what's important to me. I have the feeling Logitech is going to go back to the seperate button design, but that's just my guess due to the 1 piece design not being as reliable from mouse to mouse in force needed to press the buttons.

Anyway, just passing the time until we hear about ATI9700PROs new mouse :) I'm curious as well how it performs, which is why I checked out this thread :D

im gunna test it first with hl2, which im waiting for steam to work, but so far, i find it very light, glides very nicely across the pad(im using a ratpadz gs), and the scroll wheel, holy shit, talk about a quiet one, you cant even hear the clicking when you scroll
i will give more in depth as soon as i get some games going here

Now what is wrong with loading the software now I know that there was issues with early versions of mouseware but those have long since been fixed and mouseware is pretty good right now. They have goten better at making thier drivers so why still the crap about not recomending loading the drivers.

btw i am currently using the mx duo and i have no problems with any of the buttons

my only problem is my batteries are starting to last only 2-3 days instead of the 4-5 they used to last once i had the batteries only last 1 day then the replaced batteries last 2 days after that

another update, forgot to add that it truly does feel like a cordless mouse, because they include such a long cord...

I haven't had problems with cords being too short...Well I guess my mouse is near my tower,,,

Mostly cause I'm [H]ard and don't like any extra shit running in the background that I don't need when I'm gaming. And if all their driver does for me is make my side scroll work... it's not doing much for me anyways. And you're right, I'm biased after having 7 years of problems with their Mouseware... call me wacky.

I just got the mx1000 an i am going to have to say it is the biggest pain the ass to get it working properly if you have the mx duo and wish to keep the keyboard. For those of you who choose to let your buttons on the mouse be there as mear decorations and not load your drivers this will be pie to you since half the mouse doesnt work without the drivers and you can stop after the mouse is connected.

Ok first off the mx duo base station WILL connect to the mx1000 but it will be reconized as a keyboard but your normal keyboard will still work. However at this point the mouse works left click and forward and back work as does the wheel. The cruise control buttons and app switch button do nothing at this point and you dont have the ability to reprogram any of them. BTW this uses microsoft drivers. Now if you want the mouse to work as intended. You must hook up the mx1000 base station no biggie you have to keep it around to charge the thing any way and you also have to keep the mx duo station hooked up for the keyboard. First sync the mx1000 with its base station. Then sync the cordless elite with the mx duo station. There your done every thing should work correctly....if not you have to fiddle with it.

Ummm....no review ever posted?

Also, just wanted to check in with the reviewer....if you are using WinXP, remember that you need to install a patch to your USB driver to enable 500hz reporting on the USB ports. (By default, WinXP supports only 125hz reporting). You need to reboot after making the change.

Supposedly, the Diamondback actually supports up to 1000hz report rate - and this patch can let you enable that - but some users have reported problems (their USB ports stop working until they reinstall their motherboard drivers). 500hz is "always good".

You can verify the change was applied by using this "mouse rate" utility. Just zip the pointer around in circles inside the box, and it will report the mouse's response rate.

What is the regular mouserate? 500hz is supported by all mice right?

No. The default by all mouses is 125 hz. Most mouses have reported success with 250 hz and 500 hz. But very few can reach 1,000 hz. The few may include the Diamondback as they have 16 bits information and strangely enough, even the old beloved Microsoft Intelliexplorer 3.0 can reach 1,000, though not as consistent.

I'm hearing that Razer will release a full patch for *only* Razer mouse users to allow themselves to reach 500 - 1000 hz (if it works). However, it's best if you do the 500 hz hack by doing it manually. It takes 5 minutes if you know what you're doing. I've done it and it works well, consistently 500 hz (on my MX510).

One possible reason why your procedure did not work is because you didn't do it in safe mode which will disable the Windows File Protection system. Another possible reason is that the automatic patch didn't apply the settings to both certain folders (which is needed to work).

wireless mice are limited by thier base stations to 125hz so mx700 900 and 1000 all will only get 125 hz no matter what

Actually, both files DON'T need to be changed using this method, and you don't need to boot into safe mode.

How Windows File Protection works is that it checks the timestamp on the file, and the size of it. If it's different from what is in the dllcache folder, it "restores" it. This util is taking advantage of the 'save' vs 'save as...' functionality of windows. "Save as..." will create a file with an updated timestamp on it, so doing a 'save as...' and copying over the old file (or extracting a file from an archive and copying over the old file) will change the timestamp, and cause File Protection to trigger, over-writing it (unless you do the safe mode thing and replace both of them).

What this patch does is just 'save' after making the hex-level modifications. The way it does it, it does not update the timestamp, nor change the file size. So, you can do this with Windows while it is running, just reboot, and your changes will have taken affect.

Correct, one of the many reasons wireless is technically inferior to corded mice. (Whether you'd notice the difference or not depends on the person, of course, but wireless IS inferior)
