Alright, I wanna give a shout to Danny, and all of you who helped me with putting together my build. I had a budget of 1000, but decided to up it a little bit, and settled on the following components.

Intel i5-2500K
CoolerMaster H212+ HSF
Arctic Silver 5

MSI P67-GD65 Mobo
8GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600 (on sale for $75 today @ newegg)
XFX HD-695X-ZDDC (not NFC) 6950 1GB card (OC'd and more reliable than the std 6950)

Corsair 650TX v2 PSU
Crucial C300 64GB SSD
Samsung 1TB Spinpoint F3 SATA
LITEON SATA DVD Burner

That totaled me up at $1130 shipped.

I got the gfx card and memory from Newegg (taxable unfortunately) because Amazon doesnt have shit worth of 6950 1gig cards. That XFX runs 50mhz higher than the regular XFX 6950, and got 5 star reviews across the board, whereas the ZNFC model got horrible reviews. The memory was also on sale for the Memorial day sale @ $20 off.

I haven't decided on a case yet, but I'm gonna see what I can do with my Antec Sonata case. It's old, but I think it might be able to get the job done. If temps get to high, I'll swing by Best Buy and pick up a HAF 922 case to replace it. OR, I might break out the dremel and see what I can do with the Sonata.

Thanks again, and I'll post pics and thoughts after I build this beast. Now the tough part: WAITING!

Took u long enuff! Lol kidding.. Have fun with the build....

By the way.. The cm 212 comes with decent paste.. So u might forego the as5..

Good luck and get a phantom.lol

Yeah I'm guessing in the end I will need a new case, but we'll see. I like the phantom and its controls, so in the end it's gonna come down to whether it can fit in my desk. I actually forgot about the phantom when I made my post and talked about the HAF 922.

Not to mention, I went $130 over budget and STILL dont have a case, so :p we'll see.

As for the paste, what comes with it? From what I understand, it wasn't that great so I order the AS5.

Don't bother with the Sonata case; there won't be enough room for the HD6950 in there.

Amazon has a better selection of cases than it has of any other computer component. Don't spend the idiot tax at Best Buy grabbing your case from there.

The thermal compound that comes with the Hyper 212 Plus is more than enough for your system. Though Arctic Silver 5 is good, it requires a 200-hour curing time before it starts being effective.

Yeah you're gonna run into clearance issues with the HD 6950 1GB and the Sonata case: the length of the HD 6950 1GB is 10.5". The max video card length of the Sonata case is 10.5" IIRC.

I have the fractal designs r3 with a very similar setup. The case is amazing. Easy cable management, nice cooling, good looks and plenty of room.

Nick is down to 2-3 very good cases... Hes been getting stuff together for the last 2 weeks... Think je just hasnt made up his mind... Or is saving more cash since he went.overbudget

Hah yeah I'm taking my time, since I went over budget AND apparently Amazon is out of 2500k's til June 3rd or so, so the processor wont arrive til later. I'm down to the NZXT Phantom, the NZXT H2 (which I like a lot), and then the 3rd is gonna be a wildcard choice. This NZXT H2 really is nice, but apparently people are having some issues with the fan controller on them.

Alright draken, you'll be happy to know, I just ordered a black Phantom case. I really wanted the Black w/Orange accents, but Amazon didn't have it, and Newegg wants $25 to ship, and then there's tax on top of that. Can't beat tax-free and Amazon prime free 2-day shipping, so I went with the all-black model. I'm finally done ordering everything, and now I can sit back and survey the damage on my checking account. :D
