just setup my i5-760@3.5GHz for SMP and am starting the first WU. We'll see how this works.

passkey done, GPU0 setup on my GTX460. one of each done already.

keeps the computer room nice and warm :)

yep thats 1 advantage, don't have to run the heater as much :D

welcome to the team and get ready for the addiction bug to bite.

Welcome!

And yes, quite a few new faces. It is good to see.

Welcome!

You'll notice a point discrepancy between what the tracker says and what you see on EOC until you finish 10 SMP units, this is because you don't earn bonus points until then. Stick with it and they'll start rolling in.

Thanks for climbing on board the SMP train, and we appreciate you selecting us as your team of choice!

Welcome ! If your interested and have good cooling that chip will run 4.0 pretty easy. i have a i5-750 that has been @4.0 for 14 months.

Welcome to the [H]orde, love seeing the amount of new faces popping up lately.

The only reason I don't run 4.0 is that 3.5 is enough that the 212+ fan still runs really quiet. plus it maxes out my BFBC2 nicely with a mild overclock on the 460. I'm happy :)

I don't have an EOC number, is it imperative that I get one?

Their stats program will give one to ya.

But need one, no, but you will have one none the less.

With most of the US having a brutally cold winter, now might not be a bad time to ditch that 460 and put in a pair of 570/580's :p

Welcome to the team man!

If you ever get the urge to crank it up, think about getting a couple Gentle Typhoons for push/pull. I have the 1850rpm units and they're rated for 28dba but in practice all I hear is a gentle movement of air. The 1400rpm units are only supposed to make 21dba and would be effectively silent. These fans have some of the best static pressure around and with them on my 212+ my 2600k at 4.7 isn't breaking 61C under full load.

R, which gentle typhoons do you have? I'd like to get fans that weren't as ramp-up happy as the 212+ stock fan.

Welcome.
I would like to second R-Type's recommendation of the Gentle Typhoon 1850 RPM fan.
They sound like air movement (a breeze) rather than a normal case fan. I have one 10 feet from me running full speed and without a case. It is not even noticeable as the PSU fan is louder.
Newegg currently has them, but these fans are often out of stock.

Yeah they go through waves where literally no one has the 1850's in stock.

Shaft, welcome to the best folding team in the world

thanks.

I just ordered one 1850 typhoon from the 'egg, we'll see how it does with one first. I assume you run these off of the motherboard and switch it from PWM control to voltage control? or do you just molex them and run them straight up?

I also just joined, trying to figure out how to get my 5770's set up correctly atm :)

and am i confused because ive been up for hours, or can i just not get my F@H client to use more than 25% of my CPU, ive tried the slider and everything, it refuses to budge??

you need to make sure you set the -smp flag otherwise it just runs the standard single core client. also make sure you setup your passkey so you get your bonus points after the first 10 SMP WU's.

as far as the 5770 goes i would hold off setting that up until the new client is released some time in this quarter.

the -smp flag goes into the additional parameters box?

yes or if you are using the real smp client and not the gpu tracker you can create a shortcut and put the flag in there.

the flags i run are -smp -forceasm -verbosity 9

the -forceasm flag isn't required but i run it anyways since i'm stuck in my old ways.

I'm pretty sure fah gpu tracker forces asm anyway, I always see it in the startup log. Everything else you can enable with a checkbox in the configuration menu.

Shaft, I'm running them off my mobo headers as they don't draw much power but I have them setup to run full speed. It depends on your mobo whether or not it can control their speed, they are 3 pin fans.

yeah, the P55A-UD3 can be switched from PWM to voltage, so I should be good. I'll see once it arrives.

I also have a i750 running at 4ghz, I might try 4.1 soon.. we will see tempsare at 72c now.... bit hight but I'm happy with it

just got the 1850rpm gentle typhoon in and installed. switched the mobo to voltage control, under full load at 3.5GHz, it is very noticeably quieter than the stock CM fan that comes with the 212+. This is absolutely a keeper. I don't think I even need a second one.

now to think about 4.0GHz..... not sure what i'd do on timings with that. 3.5 is an even DDR1600 setting, which was easy.

just use a combination of cpu multiplier and bclk to get back to 1600mhz. i think at 4Ghz its like 1570 something so shouldn't be to hard to find the exact number needed.

... I don't think I even need a second one...now to think about 4.0GHz..

If you are overclocking, a push/pull on your 212+ is no louder, provides better cooling and adds the safety net of redundancy. I consider it $20 worth of insurance.

Plus it makes your heatsink look diesel as all hell. :D

Diesel is like beefy or rugged, ie Diesel engines.
