My wife just got me a xbox 360 for my b-day
But the downside is the only 1 she could find is the core version

So what do i need to get and what games guys!!
hook up the links!

Get the hard drive

Get the cables if you have an HDTV.

Get the headset.

The hard drive itself is $100 so if you haven't opened it yet I suggest waiting and returning it for the premium because you get the cables and the headset w/ that as well.

If you don't want your wife competing for time with the 360 don't show her Xbox Arcade. If you want to get her into gaming though...by all means show her (you'll need that hard drive though)

DOA4, FN3, Burnout, Condemned, PGR3 -- That's a good start.

Like WorldRunner said, it's worth your time and money to get a premium instead.

Live is a must have since pretty much every game uses it in one way or another. You can try it out for free for 30 days and see for yourself.

Geometry wars is also a must have IMO ($5 XBLA game). From there, it depends on what you like. Oblivion is coming out Monday, and for sports games, I've played the heck out of NBA 2K6. For other games, WorldRunner mentioned good ones.

get the hdd and xbox live 12 month package (comes with headset, 12 months live, billiards xbox live arcade game and a bunch of points)

you dont have to buy any games yet,
with the hdd, you can download a bunch of demos.
There are lots. get the need for speed, cod2, ridgeracer, the outfit, kameo, all the xbox arcade games. etc etc.

depending on your tastes in games, you can pick and choose.
I haven't played a BAD game for xbox360 yet. I think the worst one i played was perfect dark 0, and ridge racer.

I went to newegg and purchased the following today:

Wireless controller
HD cables
Fight Night round 3 <--- Loved round 2
and Ghost recon <--- the new one

I havent open the xbox up yet so i want to see some sick graphics on my hdtv

newegg didnt sell the dam HD
so i have to drive to a dam store somewhere and but it

but i guess its a must have for xbox live

1 more question:
I have wireless access point for my original xbox ( not the official xbox one)
but a linksys ap
can i use that instead of buying micrsofts wireless thingy

thanks guys for all the great info

fight night round 3 and graw

I haven't played graw yet , but if you like fighting games definetly get Fight Night Round 3. It was my first 360 game ( I had a pile of demos from the magazine to play already) and its a hit at my place. It has a nifty create a fighter mode and plays very well over live too. I can't stress enough the multiplayer value or the simple wow factor of the graphics. Its a great game. I also suggest giving gamefly a try, its pretty cool.

Man, there are alot of good games out for 360. The 1st ones i got were Quake 4, Call of Duty 2, Perfect Dark Zero, & Condemned.

Quake 4 could have been really good, but it lacks multiplayer options, and there has been no word of patching or updating it so, as kick ass of a game it is, I would put it under the rental list to check out the graphics.

Call of Duty 2 is a must buy, looks great, single player is awesome, and i expect they fixed the online bugs in the last patch, so MP should be solid as well. If you do play this game, play it on Veteran, makes it alot more rewarding.

PDZ is crap, returned it for Need for Speed MW.

NFSMW is alot of fun in the single player, and is just beautiful to look at. Online however is laggy as hell.

Condemned: awesome horror survival game, lets hope for a 2nd one.

After going through those 4, I picked up PGR3, DOA4, Geometry Wars & GR:AW

PGR3: Fun stylistic racer. Not as hard as the previous ones, but not too easy either.

DOA4: if your not a DOA fan, or a hardcore fighter fan willing to put in alot of time with it, pass this one up... i got the arcade stick with it too, but haven't even had an online match yet =[ someday soon maybe =]

Geometry Wars Evolved: about 5 bucks and you cant go wrong. Insanely addicting.

GRAW: You'll find out soon enough.

There's really a ton of solid games out there, spanning a lot of genres. Personally, im not a huge racing fan, but ive always enjoyed the pgr and burnout series, and the 360 versions are undoubtedly the best. Ghost recon is owning me right now, even though ive never really been a big tactical shooter fan. I loved full spectrum warrior, however, and this reminds me of that in some ways. Oblivion will be amazing, no questions asked. My advice is to subscribe to gamefly and catch yourself up by playing as many games as possible :)

These are all the games I played and finished.

Good:
GRAW, short single player, rent it if you don't like ghostrecon multiplayer
DOA4, ok all around if you like fighting games.
PGR3, ok racing, easier than pgr2. High learning curve if you never played it before. Short
NFSMW, good, lots of stuff to do, free roaming, car chases are intense/frustrating. brown.
Amped3, good if you are a tony hawk fan. good story mode, free roaming, no load times, hangliding, sledding, snowmobiling, HUGE mountains, no multiplayer.

Renter:
Tony Hawk, good online, bad graphics. short single player, ok challenge
Full Auto: Ok game, you will 100% complete it pretty easily in the rental time
COD2, annoying singleplayer with spawning enemies, laggy multiplayer.100% during rental
Ridgeracer6: plays like all the other ridge racers, crazy repetitive, ultra cheating AI, frustrating as hell.
Kameo: good solid platformer. fairly easy. has co op.
PD0, ok game, retarded storyline, no cinematics (just scrolling text), ending blows, co-op.

Burnout : Revenge
Kameo
Fight Night Round 3
PGR3
COD2
GRAW
and ....

Oblivion in just a few days :D

Also, the Core version is just dandy. But when you get some extra cash+time you'll probably want to purchase a HDD, the HDTV cables (component, if you have a HDTV), a headset, and a 12 month subscription to Live!

Welcome aboard!

That question partially depends on whether you have a high definition TV and a dolby digital surround sound system. I think Kameo is a must, although the game really picks up after the 3rd or 4th hour playing it. I also recommend Need for Speed Most Wanted. If you like being scared, Condemned is the ultimate horror survival thriller, especially with a 5.1 channel audio system.

The ones I got were PGR3, Condemed and Kameo.

Kameo has a fun co-op mode so that you and your wife can play together, is it light hearted enough that she'll probably want to play it through by herself also.

Unless you plan on playing with people online, just go for the free Xbox live Silver account. You can still d/l demos and stuff from online as well as upload your stats and chat. The only thing that is really limited is that you can't play multiplayer games across the internet.

Premium is the way to go, no doubt. Core + all accessories = ripoff!

The first game actual game i purchased is Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter. Let me just say it's unbelievable. Graphics and game play are superb.

And i'm a PC gamer, so you know it's got to be good for me to like this type of game on a console...hehe.

Games I've played.

PGR3 - Great racing game (well it's prety much the same as the 2 on the X-box, with better graphics). Haven't tried online yet. Completely different racing style to Ridge Racer (you need to break for the corners)

Ridge Racer - I'm enjoying the 1 player game. I prefer PGR3, but it's hard to adjust your driving style back to PGR once you've started playing RR. Online is laggy as hell though.

PD0 - 1 player is okay, standard FPS, only 4 slots for weapons, some weapons can take up more than 1 slot. Great Online (except for the defend area game type), no lag.

DOA4 - Good 1-2 local player game. Online lags, even after being patched.

CoD2 - single player kept me hooked. Haven't tried online.

Kameo - Great Platformer, not much replayablity once completed (check out the review in [H] Console).

Condemed - Scary. Great survival horror (again, check out [H] Console)

Geometry wars is a must.

If it's your style of gameplay and you have a high definition TV, Ridge Racer 6 is also a must. Don't read the crap that people say about it not looking like a next generation game, because the visuals are jaw dropping. As far as lag goes, i've only noticed lag when playing with an international group of people, although it hasn't been bad even then. It's actually pretty fun racing people all around the world! PGR3 is more of a simulation type of game, but the simplistic gameplay can get boring after a while.

As for DOA4, I havn't noticed any lag yet, although i've only played about 8 matches online so far.

COD2's multiplayer is really a treat, although the same maps get old after a while. It's also frustrating because just about everyone wants to sit back and play sniper.

I just wanted to give Fight Night Round 3 some more love. Damn that game is fun beating up on your friends.

....that is the only game you'll need!

I agree with some of the above posts, if you can I'd wait to open it if you already have not. Return it and get the Prem if you can find one. I wouldn't think it would be to difficult.

PGR3: absolute blast, next-gen graphics, and on sale at Best Buy this week.

GRAW: also a blast, if you like military games. It's not very simulator-ish at all, but run & gun will get you killed.
