Hey all I just finished my first build tonight. I am having some issues after installing windows and loading drivers.

Specs:
intel i5 3570k
asrock z77 extreme
16gb corsair vengeance
corsair hx850w psu
sapphire 7970
samsung pro ssd 256gb
seagate 1tb hdd

I have installled windows 7 home premium to my ssd. Started up, validated windows and all that. Loaded all of my drivers from the motherboard cd, then loaded the sapphire card drivers from the cd.
1. When I enter bios, the asrock mb is not recognizing my graphics card. Not sure why? I wasn't sure when installing if I havd to connect both pci-e cords from my psu to the graphics card, there is two ports on the card do both have to be connected to the psu?
2. I installed windows to my ssd, ssd is set to boot 1st, when I am at the desktop and go to "my computer" it only shows my ssd. When I go into bios the seagate hdd is being recognized but not showing up for storage at the desktop?

Can anyone help? Not sure what other info you may need, but if you need anything else before answering please ask. Thanks!

1) Yes both have to be connected to the PSU
2) You have to initialize and format the drive under Disk Management.

Worth a try.

Also make sure that motherboard is set to boot with the GPU enabled. SHould be under some setting with "PEG". Read your mobo manual for more info.

Yeah I changed the pci-e slot, and made sure it was set to boot with the gpu, still nothing?

there is nothing in my mb book about PEG I have used the CD that came with my gpu and followed the instructions there. my pc won't show the ati catalyst manager so I don't know if it is installing the drivers correctly.

I think I will put it back in the first pci e slot and uninstall all the drivers then go to amds website and install the latest drivers and also the latest drivers for my asrock mb and se what happens.

update mobo bios?

yeah I am going to try that tonight after work. I'm hoping its a bad card if I can't get anything to work I would hope both pci slots on my mb aren't bad.

oh and I now tried to update the mobo bios from the bios screen and it froze and started looping bios codes f1,f2, then f9 and the system won't start now

Cut your losses and RMA?

Also try to reset CMOS.
tried resetting cmos several times with no luck.

Have you replaced the CMOS batter (a CR2032 watch battery) and then reset CMOS?

If that doesn't work, then it's definitely RMA time.

I pulled the battery left it out for a few minutes, then reset the CMOS. You are saying RMA just the gpu or the mobo too?

Ok so the dr debug codes keep reading f1, f2, then f9 on my asrock z77e4. I can't even get a POST screen up let alone the BIOS. Is my MOBO fried or what? I have never encountered anything like this. I tried updating BIOS and it froze for a long time and wouldn't do anything so I turned it off then when I turned it back on these codes keep repeating.

Nevermind, just figured it out after hours of searching..was able to flash the bios update via usb stick and reboot the pc it did its thing and i'm booted back up like normal..going to rma the gpu though probably go with a gtx 680.
