ok if you wanna know how long its been since i actualy kept up with technology...ill put it like this.. I didnt know what kepler was till like 4 days ago. LOL.. just havent had time!!!

ok so anyways, questions.. now that nvidia has maximus and its proven to work well.. why cant gamers have something similar? for example, im a CAD designer. I just build a 4500 dollar work station but put in mine sweeper and it crashes lol. why cant people like me have some kind of tecnology like maximus so we can go back and forth with the same rig? or can we already i just dont know it?

2nd.. how powerful are the tablet tegras? basically what i need to do, is to be able to design in Solidworks (3d cad software) on my workstation, and then swipe the design over to the tablet to go out in the machine shop, or for meetings with engineers. (i picture a android like "swipe" method but more realitically i would just need to be able to run solidworks and open the files on a tablet.) i know windows tablets are out there, but can the gpu's handle CAD? i know it wont do real view or render like my quadro, but if it will function it will work. this also includes doing FEA simulations which use the GPU in solidworks. sometimes i need the engineers to plug in certain values while i run the sims. having a portable tablet would make it much easier.

and 3rd. what kind of setup would i need to power a massive 3d walkthrough inside a projector dome. i assume 3 3d projectors but what would i need to run them with? it would need to be interactive so that you can explore and not just go where a animation takes you. that tells me im going to have to go with a quadro setup, since CAD uses workstation cards.

lastly. when are the quadro cards going to have the new kepler architecture?

thats about it for now.

1) Not a huge market for that kind of technology I'd imagine. Also, the only real difference (besides the obvious) between a quadro and regular GeForce card are the drivers. Nvidia's GeForce drivers are purposely crippled when it comes to CAD work and the Quadro drivers are purposely cripped when it comes to games.

2) More than likely not won't work for two reasons:
a) AFAIK, there aren't any CAD software available for Android or iOS, the two most popular tablet OSes
b) If the CAD work is something very complicated, the GPU may not be enough.

3) N/A.

4) Not for awhile: Nvidia is having trouble getting the regular consumer Kepler GPUs out to the market. So it's gonna be a while

as far as the tegra thing goes, id be waiting on a windows tablet.. thanks fo the reply.

I didn't see anything for Solidworks, but Autodesk has a DWG viewer on Android(and probably iOS too). I pulled up one of our drawings on my Galaxy Nexus just fine. It was just a 2d drawing though. If you had a Windows based tablet and were just using eDrawings to view, I bet it would do ok.

[Edit]
They had a sample 3d dwg drawing of a house and it performs just fine on my phone. I assume it would perform the same or better on a faster tegra gpu.
