According to this news item, the now infamous “what’s a website” judge was supposedly taken out of context and he is indeed computer literate.

"Mr Justice Openshaw was simply clarifying the evidence presented, in an easily understandable form for all those in court," the statement said. "Mr Justice Openshaw is entirely computer literate and indeed has taken notes on his own computer in court for many years," it added.

well it doesn't seem like long ago when people started talking about websites, giving the url along with the "AOL Keyword"... so surely there's some people who are still stuck in the 80s

Sounds like a case of the media running off with a story out of context.

I don't know. Based on some of his further comments, it's hard to mistake the context: "I haven't quite grasped the concepts."

It's pure spin, the original article was quite clear that he was personally confused and was asking these questions for his own benefit. This newest crap is just spin to keep the dude from getting a new trial with a judge smart enough to understand basic concepts that are explained to him.

I agree. He could have said something like, "Please indulge the court and provide an explanation that doesn't assume any understanding of the topic." or something like that. His comments make it sound like he's the idiot and not that he's doing it for the benefit of the court.

who decided it would be a good idea to have old people in charge anyway? its not like people learn from their mistakes or call on their past experience these days, they keep on doing the same stupid shit over and over (see govt, corporations, ect)
