You may know Jon from Facebook, Vevo, Qualcomm, GLOBALFOUNDRIES, AMD, and even ATi, with a previous stint at Intel thrown into that mix as well. Mr. Carvill is Intel's newest addition to its marketing team. Jon is officially Vice President, Marketing, Technology Leadership. Undoubtedly Intel marketing has been stepping on its own feet for a while in terms of messaging and narrative, so I guess we will see if Carvill makes things any better. Interestingly enough, Jon was one of the first PR representatives HardOCP worked with at ATi so many years ago. We are very much looking forward to see what direction he takes Intel's marketing in. We got $20 on it being a very good one.

Guessing you have had a good experience with him and his team then? Hopefully that ends up being true again because Intel marketing, media relations and the amount of technical details they divulge now is very uh, lack luster...
Very much so. I lived through Bulldozer with Carvill. He is a straight shooter.

If there is anybody out there who can find a way to positively spin the shit show that is the current Intel product line it will be this guy.
I don't think it is so much that. Not like Intel has put any turds out into the marketplace that need polishing. I think Intel needs to get a bit more down to earth with its customers and with the public in general. While certainly Intel is dealing with production hurdles, the issue is that it has likely not addressed those hurdles in the way it should.

That said, the recently blunders that have chased it around have been 100% the fault of messaging and PR, nothing to actually due with any products it is selling.

Intel has needed a better marketing head for quite a while. Let me dig up a picture for you to put this in perspective. This is an intel shirt. This is just awful.

People keep saying this yet Intel has competitive products across virtually every product stack, and in a lot of cases lead their specific usage scenario metrics. Yeah the gamers all wanted Sandy Bridge 2 at an affordable price, but that might never happen for a long time on the cpu side. Considering their recent uptick in cores and releases, despite not having a lot to show for it, indicated their willingness to adapt to a market they started to falter in. The server side isn't much different, people want stability and consistency, and Intel delivers it. Look at real world large server array tests comparing AMD and INTEL chips, Intel stands to continue their trajectory.

Carvill will continue to do what he has always done, redefine their branding, reach, and perception that they don't have bad products, but actually deliver best of class tech in almost every real world usage scenario a customer could need.

Nothing screams abstinent like that god awful shirt.

More on topic, I hope this results in better relations between [H] and Intel.
