I have ordered a SATA II 3 Gb/s HDD and I obviously want it to run full speed on my board, which is an Asus P5DV2-X.
There are two 'normal' SATA ports that support 1.5 Gb/s and one Jmicron JMB363 which is the one that is supposed to support 3Gb/s, however it is marked SATA_RAID1 as you can have a RAID setup with this port and an external one.
I don't intend to do a RAID setup, so.......
Do I just plug my SATA II into this port, and make sure the BIOS is set to [IDE] not [RAID]?.
or
Do I change the jumper on the HDD, plug it into one of the slower ports?.

Please let me know if this post should be in 'motherboards' rather than 'disk storage systems'...I wasn't sure which category this problem fell into.

Yep, least that it way it works on my DQ6. But...

Check your manual carefully, you might have had to install the ACHI/raid preinstall (F6) driver to get NCQ. I went raid from get go so it was not an issue for me. Hopefully some ASUS guru will show up.

Didnt mention what brand drive, in setting up my system I just happened to download the Hitachi drive tools and discovered that I had to use it to enable 3Gbs on my drives that were advertised as SATA 3Gbs. They dont ship from the factory enabled high speed. You said jumpers so you are probally ok but you still might want to download the manuf disk tools as there might be some diagnostics in there that will confirm the drive is doing what you want on that port.

oh another thing, dont use drivers from windows update for the Jmicron without investigating first. Better to get from board manuf or Jmicron. People had some trouble with windows version.

Thanks for the reply.
The drive is a Western Digital WD2000JS Caviar SE 200GB 7200RPM SATAII/300 and the O.S is Vista home Premium 32.
