Jeff Gerstmann from Gamespot.com fired...

I read another forum on this subject. Some say that Bioshock and Crysis were both given 9.5 for cash. Is this related to Jeff GerstMann's departure also? The Kane review was spot on, dire game

I'm glad that idiot is gone. He gave Twilight Princess an 8.8, which in my opinion shows he is not fit to review games. He wouldn't know a good game if one sat on his face.

Gamespot as a whole is a joke. They gave Twilight Princess an 8.8, but Phantom Hourglass gets a 9.0. Phantom Hourglass is a better game than Twilight Princess? Something is wrong there.

I would have given TP a 7 and PH a 5, so I don't see what the problem is. Hasn't been a good zelda since the SNES...

Whhhhhhhat?! OoT on N64 was a masterpeice

Couldn't stand it... Made it maybe 3 hours into the full game, and tried some later levels. Not everything translates well into 3d. I honestly hated it: one of the worst Zelda's I've ever played.

That's just my opinion though. When it comes to Metriod, Mario, and Zelda, I'm a 2d guy all the way. All of the 3d incarnations, with the possible exception of Mario 64, are just poo.

People should think about the real world implications of such actions. If this happens in the video game industry, what about industries, where accurate, unbiased, and truthful information is crucial like the news media. Advertisement is what pays these companies also.

Corporate behaviours/influences such as this,I would imagine are possibly far worse in the mainstream media outlets.

That's a pretty bold statement considering Ocarnia of Time is in the discussion for the best game of all time.

You just proved my point becase you rated PH a 5 and TP a 7, while Gamespot rated PH better than TP.

gentlemen, you're getting off topic here.

I keep clicking on this thread and all I see is new posts about fucking zelda.

anyone know what the update on jeff is?

Maybe so, but I honestly disliked the game strongly. Such is my opinion to have. I'd politely refuse to review it if asked to: I can grant that the game doesn't have problems, other than being distasteful to me, but my dislike of it is entirely mine and wouldn't let me review it fairly. I dislike the 3d versions of most of my old 2d games.

It's all personal opinion. I personally think both are pretty much trash.
:p

No clue, I think he is in the lost woods, looking for the master sword.

"In the spirit of full disclosure to our readership, GameSpot News has been provided the following answers by management to the questions below regarding the circumstances surrounding Gerstmann's exit."

Q: Why was Jeff fired?

A: Legally, the exact reasons behind his dismissal cannot be revealed. However, they stemmed from issues unrelated to any publisher or advertiser; his departure was due purely for internal reasons.

So much for full disclosure.

I remember Jeff I used to post at GameSpot. His reviews are very odd but I don't really care if he got fired.

Well, I always hated GSpot, so this just further my hate for them. Of course, most reviewing sites are probably corrupt anyway.

Most people aren't upset about this because of their like for Jeff. It's the bigger issue of sites getting bribed(advertisement dollars) for good reviews, and Jeff getting fired for not playing along.

People still put faith in game reviews? Personally, I find all reviews to be pretty inaccurate and worthless. On the scale of 60%-100% (since NO review site really uses sub 60%, and even below 70% is rare), the breakdown generally seems to be:

95%+ - Excellent game
90-95% - Good game
80-90% - Average game
-80% - Garbage

Unless of course the reviewer falls victim to the hype machine or corporate interests. After watching the Kane and Lynch video, one has to question why the game got a 7. A 7 should be a relatively decent score, but the video is a listing of tons of things wrong with the game and really makes it seem like it sucks. From the video review, the game sounds more like 2 or 3 material.
