1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
Gaming, Web Browsing, HD video.
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
I'm dealing in yen and getting parts in Japan, so preferably nothing that converts to over $1700 dollars. Normally this would be extremely expensive, although I'm finding parts are even more expensive in yen, let alone before I convert the yen I would spend to dollars. This is the most reasonable price point without sacrificing quality for cost.
3) Which country do you live in? If the U.S, please tell us the state and city if possible.

MB: Asus Z68 V-Pro
CPU: i5-2500K
GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 580 (Possible MSI N570GTX Twin Frozr II OC GeForce GTX 570 depending on availability and price)
RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 1600
HDD: Samsung Spin Point 1 TB
SSD: Crucial M4 128 GB
DVD: Liteon iHas324-27
CASE: NZXT Phantom

My dilemma comes when deciding where to get all of these parts from. I can go with a local store, however the selection is much more limited and I'm paying a ridiculous premium. I could get something much cheaper by using kakaku.com and ordering a-la-carte, but then if something goes wrong I am stuck dealing with RMA'ing things to various places. I don't know the failure rates on hardware since it has been a long time since I built a PC.

If anyone has some advice that would be great.

I don't recommend the 580 GTX, totally not worth the price. Go with the 570 GTX, but only if the HD Video work will be done in Adobe's software that makes use of CUDA technology, otherwise go with an AMD 6950 as it will most likely cost less than the 570 GTX and it preforms better in most games.

Save money and go with DDR3 1333 RAM instead of 1600, you will not notice any performance increase paying for the 1600 RAM. Since Sandy Bridge doesn't require you to overclock the RAM to over clock the process, their is no reason to go with faster RAM.

The NZXT Phantom is a case, not a cooler. I would suggest looking for a Cooler Master 212+ for the CPU cooler but it's only a bargain in the States if you can have one for under $30.

That Asus Z68 V-Pro is an expensive MB in the States, I'd recommend going with a P67 board from either MSI or GIGABYTE (In the ~$120 - $150 price range) as it will have all your requirements.
 
Sorry, meant to write Case instead of Cooler. I'm kind of a Asus fan as far as mobo's go. Is there a large difference between the pro and other Z68 boards? And would going with a P67 future proof it sufficiently?

And sorry, I should specify that it isn't HD editing, merely watching HD video. Should I still go with a GTX over an AMD 6950?

Unless you're planning on using the features of the Z68 chipset, the P67 chipset will be fine. However I would avoid Asus's P67 mobos since some of them do have a higher than average failure/issue rate.

For watching HD video, either brands will work. So go for the HD 6950 2GB since it is usually the better bang for the buck purcahse.
 
I can vouch for the NZXT Phantom case. I have the white one
and its great. Cooling and wire management were my priorities
and that case delivers.
 
So after some advice this is my current build:

I switched the Ram and GPU. And to be honest I have no clue about whether I'll need those extra two Sata 6gb slots on the V-pro. What situation would call for that?
 
Two situations:
1) u need more hard drives for storage
2) ur using more ssds
