4x 9800GX2's vidio cards.
4 Gb DDR2-800 ram.
1500 watt PSU.
Thermaltake Armour+ case.

If your going over 4 GPU cores per box, I would go Windoze XP64 and not Vista64.
I never got Vista64 to load all my 8 GPU cores.
It would stick at 5 GPU cores.
But once I swopped to XP64, It loaded them no trouble.
I've made 7 dummy VGA plugs by just sticking 3x 75 ohm resistors in the correct holes of a DVI-VGA adapter.
Running at stock speed at the moment so only 8x ~4,800 = ~38,500 Ppd.
I've set affinities so all the GPU cores can use all the CPU cores and even at two GPU core per CPU core under XP, there's no real slow down in the GPU folding.
I don't think I'll add a SMP client to the mix as I will probably slow all the GPU clients down to much.

GPU fans are at 100% and GPU core temps are around 77C.
Power useage is ~917 watts pulled from the wall, measured on a Kill-a-Watt meter.
So thats ~42.5 PpDpWatt.

Sweet Oden's Raven! That's one hell of a producer. You'd definitely win the award for most PPD per cubic foot of space! Even in that big case!

One boxen that outproduces all three of my F@H boxen put together. And to think I'm in the top 20 on the team in daily production right now. :eek:

Eeyore is my slowest boxen.
The CPU is not overclocked and only runs at 2.5 Ghz .......... :p

Tigger on the other hand is my fastest boxen with Twin CPU's at 3.4 Ghz ...... :D

Owl, Rabbit, Kanga, Roo, Pooh and Piglet are my standard quad boxen running at 3.1 Ghz.

Must bring Heffalump back online.
I need to dig out the Ghz nic card that works under XP64.
And drop a 9800GTX in it.

8 boxen, 16 VM's, 9 GPU's, ~2 kW/h, ~70,000 PpD.

Very cool glad you got this beast up and running I know you were battling it for a while!

 
I started with Vista64 thinking that the lower CPU useage would be an advantage.
Now Vista64 recognised all 4 cards but would only load the drivers for 5 GPU cores.
I was thinking I'd hit some type of bios limit with running 4x cards.
But on the display setting screen when I went to expand the desktop, each card had three outputs.
Two which worked with expanding the desktop and one that did not.
So I think Vista64 was picking up the internal SLI of the cards and thats what was blocking the last three GPU cores from working.

Once I'd switched back to XP64, all 8 GPU cores showed up with no trouble, once I'd loaded the drivers.
Also I've only got two outputs per card.

So with a 9800GX2, XP works better than Vista.

Sounds like vista was picking up the HDMI out as a separate source, I get the same thing on my 9800gx2 under vista 64.

 
I only have 1 card, so I'm not running into the same issue. I just plugged a monitor into each DVI and extended to the second DVI (third output in display settings). The second output is unused, but gives me the option to extend to it.

900W from the wall! Wow! That'll be a nice space heater come winter.
 
Never thought of the HDMI output.
As there was no load on its output then you would not be able to span the desktop to it.
So you could well be right.
