It's that time again. I need a new computer. My old computer just can't keep up; It's been a while since I've looked at what's new.

I'm looking for a nice gaming computer. I plan to spend about $2000. If anyone could post their rigs or post some links on some new gaming motherboards etc. that would be great . (I'm AMD all the way.)

Well, here's a quick guide:

- For a CPU selection, navigate to either the Intel, AMD or VIA/Other CPU subforums.
- For a motherboard selection, I would suggest navigating over to the Motherboards subforum and find one based upon your Intel or AMD CPU choice.
- For a RAM/Memory selection, navigate to the Memory subforum.
- For video card selection, again, navigate to the Video Card subforum.
- For power supply suggestions, navigate to the Power Supplies subforum.
- Interested in sound cards? Navigate to the Computer Audio subforum for details!
- For people's current rigs, you can either look at everyone's signature or look at pictures in this subforum.
- If you are interested in small form factor machines, I'd suggest navigating to the Small Form Factor Systems subforum.
- Need a monitor too? Look no further! Navigate to the Monitors subforum and see the wealth of information contained within!

What I would NOT suggest doing is taking random suggestions from people who (may or may not) think THEY have the latest, greatest and bestestest hardware. Do some research on your own and find something you are satisfied with.

Also, you might want to answer a few questions first before people can help:
- What size monitor do you have or are planning to get?
- What parts do you need for that budget?
- Do you already have a copy of an OS?
- Will you be overclocking?
- Does that budget include tax and shipping?
- What features do you want or need in a mobo? more than 4 SATA ports? RAID? scond PCI-E x16 slot? eSATA? etc..
- Why AMD? You do know that currently Intel C2Ds are the fastest CPUs out there? And that they're seriously easy to OC?

I concur with Tytalus. Do a bit of research and then post a quick build list.

Here is what I would recommend (for an almost future-proof machine):

1. CPU: Intel Q6600 (G0 stepping) - $279.99

2. Motherboard: ABIT IP35 Pro - $185

3. RAM: 2GB G.Skill PC2-6400 800mhz - $100
*Note, you can always put in 4GB of ram, depending on how much you need.

4. Video Card: eVGA GeForce 8800 GTS 640mb - $395

5. Hard Drives: Seagate 320GB 7200.10 ($85) + Seagate 500GB 7200.10 ($120)
*Note: As an alternative choice, you can get less/more for storage (depending on your needs) and/or a Raptor 10k/15k rpm drive as the main OS/apps drive.

6. CPU Cooler: Thermalright Ultra-120 - $65 + Scythe Fan ($25)

8. Power Supply: Corsair 620HX - $170 - $30 rebate

9. Case: Antec P180B - $115

With a $2k budget, its in your best interest to ditch AMD. However, if you'd rather not, look into the 6400+ X2 CPU.

Going off of PC-User's build, you could save money on the RAM, PSU, and CPU HSF, and still have a great system, IMO.
