That's only 70 gflops each. To quote wikipedia:
ATI's latest X1900 architecture (2/06) has a claimed performance of 554 GFLOPS
So hypothetically it could be about 8 times as fast  It won't happen - as Wikipedia mentions, many of those flops are single-purpose only - but it'd be cool ;)

flop you

up flopping yours

I was out flopping last night

I could give a flop less

flopping mods all flopping up the flopping place

i said a flip flop the flippie the flippie
to the flip flip flop, a you dont stop

... folding :D

what the flop

edit: zim is a flopper

The fragment engines, just the ALUs, which is what we use, top out at ~375GFlops, but that include the "full" ALUs and the "half" ALUs (can't do MADS). MAD rate is ~250GFlops peak.

There is a difference between algorithms flops and how many actual flops we actually run. We have to do some extra stuff on the GPU so the "actual" flops is ~2X those reported. The reported numbers are normalized to the CPU equivalent for fairness and sanity. Most folks are cruising in the 70GFlop (normalized) range at 3D clocks. Hopefully we can get this up a little more once we are out of Beta. Interestingly, larger proteins run at better efficiency on the board.

So, we're never gonna get flopping MAD with the GPU client?

How sad... :D

Now I can't get that song out of my head.............. :D

everybody go hotel motel holiday inn

anyone have a how-to on how to configure 2 F@H consoles to run as services for use on my AMD X2?

I'll tell u what it's that I did...

I created a folder "Folding"
Within it two more folders "Fold1" and "Fold2" and put the two console clients there one in each folder.

run - cmd
cd to the folder directory...
cd Fold1\
FAHetc-console.exe -configonly

Enter username
Team Number
etc etc
As service? YES
Go into adv opts and set Machine ID to 1

cd ..
cd Fold2\
same as above...but the Machine ID should be set to 2

This now will be all set up to run on your next reboot or you can go into services.msc fron the run prompt and find FAH services and start them from there...

This is a little messy but I hope that'll get you started...

Thanks, that will be a huge help. What program do you then use to check on your progress?

EM3 seems to work best for me.

And if you want a lighter solution than EM3, then just open up unitinfo.txt and it has basic information in it such as percentage done and what protein you're working on, etc.

Is it worth it to use the GPU client over a dual CPU setup? I'm thinking about power consumed and points production. Any thoughts?, please share them.

If you are folding for HFC, stick with the CPU...

I personally think you shouldn't leave either one of them out in the cold. They have each different core that they can fold so we'll be needing them both at the moment... For the most bang, I would say go with GPU folding as it'll give you a nice PPD over your CPU.

Ninja Edit: I'm also running dual core, both of them are folding and the GPU are folding...

Net Gain using GPU = 372 ppd.

However, using p2412 the net gain falls to 125 ppd.

If you use 2D clocks, production on the GPU is 440 ppd and compared to a p2412 on one core the gain is only 25ppd.

If you were giving up folding a p1495 to run the GPU cli ent, you'd lose 352ppd at 2D clocks and 264 ppd at 3D clocks.

When you start looking at OC'd and high end Conroes, you're going negative if you devote a core to GPU folding.

I made one major investment to go the Conroe/X1950 XT route and while I won't regret it for the fantastically powerful computer I will have when finished building it, it looks like in the short term, I'll regret spending so much on a vid card far more powerful than my regular needs that provides little to no production boost on average.

Hopefully there is some balancing point where the CPU core can still make decent production AND feed the GPU so that it isn't crippled. I'm sure that if that point exists, someone will soon find it.
