It's finally happened: Auto-Renew can now be toggled on XBL website

Just found this out on reddit.
Went to my account settings on the xbox live site, and sure enough, I was able to disable auto-renew without having to call Microsoft. They throw a few nag screens before you can shut it off as well as a list of reasons for why you're shutting it off, but it beats the hell out of making a phone call.

Now to see if it sticks.

Nice that they finally included this in. I thought it was stupid it wasn't there so I always bought prepaid xbox live time cards so It wouldn't auto renew if i didn't want it too.

I actually am grateful! thanks, I called them up before but no one answered when I wanted to cancel auto-renew! thanks a bunch

It was already buried in the options on the website before. They must have removed it again at some point then.

I know I couldn't find it earlier this year. Was annoying as fuck. Eventually I found a Q & A on it where it said you had to do it over the phone or on the 360 itself in your profile settings.

I had a rep tell me once they reason they make you call in is so they can offer you XBLIVE at a discount to avoid you from cancelling.

Pointless feature because if you choose to renew with a prepaid card to avoid auto renewal then they reinstate auto-renewal... which means each time you use a prepaid code you need to turn off auto renewal.

I went to cancel my son's monthly sub that I got tricked into after buying him the $1 month sub. They talked me into a 6 mo sub for $25. Dangit... well at least I ain't paying $10 a month again.

Prepaid cards come out cheaper, you can get 1 year cards for $40 on sales that happen fairly regularly.

:D I suppose.

My goal was to just get out of the $10 a month thing... I let him sign up for a $1 month and then when I went to cancel it last month, I was amazed that it took a phone call. I put it off and put it off... and ended being charged $10 for a 2nd month.

They had it set up where it looked like you could disable auto-renewal through the website, however it just led to a page with their support number and instructions. That's it.

Though there are residents in some localities in the U.S. (e.g. Chicago) who've always had the ability to disable auto-renewal without making a phone call, or so I've heard.

They've gone back and forth on it as far as I can tell, as I've cancelled auto-renew through the website at least three times. You had to go through like five or six pages to get there, in some super obscure spot.

Another time I went to do so and it wasn't there any more and I did have to call.
