Perhaps you haven't learned how to adapt? For example, I bought TF2 the other day and got my ass handed to me multiple times, its about the 4th or 5th day of having it. I realized in order to live longer, I have to attempt to move as fast as the scout that I hate (I'm a sniper so thats hard). As a sniper I got killed about 2 times as much as my kills, all from this one guy in some weird clan. I then realized I should try to copy his movements, style, technique, and by doing so I learned pretty well and now live about 5-15 kills in before dying (usually its some g'damn spy who backstabs me). You wanna be better than the people you hate (assuming you get as angry as I do in-game lol), then you need to learn to play like them, and copying is a good way to learn.
Back when Unreal Championship was popular in Xbox, it took me about a month of practice to realize I gotta really get in the game and move like the pros move in order to live longer. It all makes sense after that...
