Is this sub any good?

I used to have that subwoofer when i first got into home theater. It's a good starter subwoofer, but you will probably end up wanting to upgrade it after a while. It bottoms out easily at higher volumes, since it doesnt have any type of distortion limiter.

I would recommend getting the Velodyne CHT-10, which you can still find at most circuit city stores, and costs about $260. It will walk all over the MTX, even though the CHT-10 is a 10 incher. the CHT also plays deeper and louder. I've done side by side comparisons with the MTX and the Velodyne CHT-10 and CHT-12, and the CHTs are clearly a cut above.

Note: The Velodyne CHTs are no longer listed on the the CC website, since they are just selling off the few they have left. Go to the store and pick one up!!!! You'll thank me later :)
 
I'll have to check it out tommorow, I just got home from bestbuy, I saw nice klipsch sub but it was like 480 bucks. I also saw the bose life style thing which is 3,000. That's just nuts.

what do you have against MTX :confused:

That velodyne you linked is pretty decent actaully, i would take it over the MTX also. Please note that CC made a boo-boo on the frequency response, its actually 35 hz, not 50.

its a great sub actually considering its only 115 watts. $250 isnt a terrible price either, btu you can find the CHT-10, which is better for about the same price.

haha nothing against MTX.. actually I had some Blue Thunders in my car for a while... decent for the price... but your right.. could do better for the price.
 
That MTX sub is terrible. I work at CC( :eek: ) and its one of the worst we carry and we dont exactly carry high end. It has a sloppy sound to it and has insane port noise. Like the other poster said you will want to upgrade pretty quickly after getting it.

In that price range its really really hard to find a good sub. Velodyne is really your best bet.

If you decide to spend more(Atleast twice as much) then HSU, SVS, Higher end Velodyne come into play.

I doubt you are willing to do that so I would go with a VRP 10 inch Velodyne posted above. I cant think of anything better for the price. HSU has the STF-1 which most people would consider better than the velodyne but ive never heard it. The HSU is $299
