My dad has asked me to build him a pc, his first pc. He knows nothing about pcs at all but he is clear with what he wants it for.

He wants it for

- Internet
- Lite gaming
- Burning
- Image editing

He only has £550 to spend but ill be building him this system....

Athlon 64bit 3200+ 754
512mb DDR pc3200
160gb Hard drive

ok thats the main specs, of course i need psu,mobo, mouse, keyboard, monitor etc

anyway the video card... I was going to get him a 6600GT. I am a hardcore gamer and i have a 9800pro. Now here is the question...

Is it shameful for me to take my 3 month old Sapphire 9800pro 128mb card and switch it with the 6600gt im going to get him? He is only a lite gamer, a 9800pro would be perfect for him.
 
I'll take it to replace my TNT2 and it won't be shameful at all because you are helping out a poor child at Christmas.

When my dad first started playing games he didn't care about the video card and it was much worse than a 9800 pro, I say go for it.
 
You have to tell him you are doing it. Otherwise it would be decietful, and he is your dad. The last (or second to last) person in the world you want to try to screw over, from a truely moral and practical standpoint.

lol if i had a tnt2 i would no way swap it with my dads card. Since the 9800pro is still a damn good card i think i will swap it, ill tell him also, he should have no objections, he doesnt know anything about computers at the moment.

Tell him that the card you just bought for yourself will easily do what he needs and lots more. He'll be OK with that if you explain it to him up front.

I would take the new card and give my dad the old card. It's still a decent card and you're the one building the computer. You should get something out of it.
 
i've been in that situation before... and if you know that you can get away with it, and if you think they'd say no if you told them, don't tell em!
