Hi

Is this Enermax 420W (EG425AX-VE) enough to power this setup?

MSI Neo Plat S754
AMD 64 3000+ with heatsink/ fan
512MB Crucial Mem
1 12GB ATA 100? maybe ATA 66 (not neccessary but a bonus)
1 40GB WD ATA 100
1 120GB Segate SATA 150
1 Standard FDD
1 Standard DVD-ROM
1 Lite-On LDW-811S DVD+/-RW
SB Audigy 2 Platinum eX (needs small power connector for external box)
Sapphire 9800 Pro
3 8*8 cm case fans
and 1 Sound Sensitive NEON using a 12V connector.

The PSU has dual 12v lines:

+3.3V: 32A
+5V: 36A
+12V1: 15A
+12V2: 14A
-12V: 0.8A
+5V Standby: 2.5A
+3.3V & +5V: 260W
Total Power: 420W

Thanks. And could anyone quickly explain the reason for needing these extra Amps? and how the dual 12V lines work?

That's easily enough to power it. If you've already bought it, cool, but if not, I'd go for a Fortron 530W or 550W anyway just because the price should be about the same for a better unit.

As for current, you can never have too much as long as it's clean power (unless you've got a short, heh). Dual 12V is good because problems (like a short or a spike or something) on one line won't affect the other

extra?
capacity above what you require just isnt supplied, thus a 200watt draw on a 500watts PSU is just that, but a PSU running at half its rated capacity is better at regulation of the internal rails and dealing with external variations to the source power than one loaded right up to its rated capacity
alternately your question could mean why are all these extra amps need now?
the answer would be two fold, we never seem to need less power, so incrementaly it all increases, and part two, on many modern mobos the CPU \ mobo switched from being primarilly powered off the +5V rail to the +12V rail

which leads us to why the dual +12V rails in the ATX12V v2.0 spec, to isolate and independently regulate the +12V rail powering the mobo and CPU from peripherals like drives (though that PSU isnt fully compliant with the spec since it has a 20 pin main power connector for compatibility with the majority of the current crop of boards)

the 4 pin connector is the +12V auxillary mobo connector, the AUX is the older one it replaces and the extra should be easily good for all the fans

Thankyou two very much. You've fully answered my questions...and a bit more :D

You truly do know you're stuff!!
