Is this crazy?

So I got a Lian Li pc-65 case from a few years ago, and the dust build up in the case is crazy (i might live a bit dirty). The rudimentary filter its got for the 2 front fans gets caked and so does the grill thing which keeping the mesh filter in place. Now my case temp is usually 10c higher than i'd want them to be and im a lazy sunnavabitch to keep cleaning it every week. So here's what im thinking.
a) how do i keep the dust demons out and
b) that filter and grill MUST be restricting the airflow into the front of the case....so
c) how do i great rid of both.

So i have this small foot long room bionair air purifier i keep by my desk to get rid of my smoking stink (dont work)....it sucks dirty air in and blows supposedly clean air out. Its not a hepa but its got like a 3 filtration system in it.
So in a moment of clarity i figured i'd take off the front panel/grill/filter from the front of my case exposing the 2 80mm fans....stick the Bionair in front of it so its blowing its clean goodness INTO my case, thereby....
a) doing the job of the piss ass filter that was there a thousand fold
b) removing the airflow restrication of everything in front of fan
c) pushing already cooled air INTO the case

I got one 80mm fan in back and one on roof to suck out...
So any opinions?...anyone already doing this/?...complete waste of my day?
Thanks
Patrick

If nothing else, it'll be good for a laugh... post pics!

Seriously tho, sounds like a plan... until it gets so clogged with dust and crap that it catches fire... Have you tried vaccuuming once in a while? Or failing that, just suspend your computer from the ceiling. :D

Vacuuming...my mothers told me about this thing...maybe i should try it. Like i said im lazy  . The catching fire thing though might be cause for worry...ahh but i have faith in my Bionair...ill try to get a pic when i get my ass of this chair to get camera

I'm currently modding my Antec mid-tower and was simply amazed at the amount of sh1t in the bottom of the case, as well as the extreme build up in the plastic 80mm fan housing area @ the front of the case.

Then again, I smoke, have three cats, and my desk is in an upper loft area of my home where there are no heat runs. So very little air circulation.

I'd be very interested in any possible solution you come up with. Consider this a "You're not alone" reply :)

Cheers,

Smoke rises man. Choose your poison: Death by dust, or death by smoking?

or you can just set the computer on a box or something, just so it's not directly in the path of most of the dust you kick up. that, or attach a tube that extends upward, so your computer can sit on the ground, while it intakes air from above the case through the tube. i suppose it wouldn't be astetically (sp?) pleasing to have some pvc pipe sticking out the front of your computer, but i'm sure you can find a way to make the basic concept happen w/o making it look too ghetto.

sounds like a good plan, but i'm kinda wondering if there's any negetive effects of putting something that pushes out 'ionized air'. almost seems like an esd problem or something.

probalby not an ESD problem, but your computer might be worse than before, depending.
I've got an Ionic Breeze, which I believe is similar to your device.

They work on the principle of charging the air with one polarization. Then the collection grid is charged with the oposite polarity, and all of the positively charged gunk in the air sticks to
the negatively charged grid. Works great, and looks really cool on the infomercial. But since
you're charging the air particles right at the intake of your computer, anything that is missed by your bonair, will probably now stick with a vengance to the inside of your PC, or to certain parts of your PC.

I've never been able to get the collection plates clean without using water and a bit of elbow grease. I don't think I'd want to apply the same techniques to my motherboard.

Please keep in mind, I haven't tried this, so it's all speculative.
