Is this cable safe?

So I have a Seasonic 1300w Titanium PSU I bought in 2022, but that was before the ATC 3.1 spec, and I have a RTX-4080S FE video card, and don't like that jumbled mess of thick cables the card comes with.

I researched this and was wondering if these cables are good and safe?

I also looked up official Seasonic GPU to PSU cables but the only ones they sell are the newer 3.1 type where both ends are 12 pins and to use that I'd need to buy a new PSU, which I'm not opposed to, but my current Seasonic is still a pretty good power supply.

12v HP is such a mess there's no way I would used a generic cable. That may be judgmental to say, but we're not taking about a VGA cable here.

So I purchased this cable. It's an official Seasonic GPU cable. But once I brought it home, I realized my PSU is a ATX 3.0 not the new ATX 3.1 to allow this cable to work.

My only option would be to buy a brand new power supply that goes with this cable.

What's your opinion?

So what's everyone's final opinion here? Try out these cables from Amazon and hope for the best? Or bite the bullet and buy a new high-end ATX 3.1 PSU and also use the official Seasonic cable as noted in my above post?

you can try it, id just double check the pinout against the oem one.

I ordered a new cable directly from Corsair for my ATX 3.0 power supply. It was the the new style cable (12v 2x6). The new cable you got from Seasonic should be fine in your 3.0 power supply just as I did with mine. As mentioned by pendragon1 just make sure the pinout is good and it fits snugly.

Not super impressed with the thinness of these cables and very spidery feeling like an easy to tangle mess.

Reddit thread evga

I asked the same question in Team EVGA since they gave me a response of use the adapter the gpu came with.

Here's the best answer I got

The right angle recall was an adapter only (not a cable) which they made about 2-3 years ago which had a few issues. I had one of them and had no issues with it, but I destroyed it and sent them photos and they issued me a credit, which I used to buy some nice cables for my 3090Ti.

If you go to that link [https://store.cablemod.com/configurator/](https://store.cablemod.com/configurator/) then click on "**custom PSU cables**" image, and then click "**continue to next step**" that appears to the lower right, and this will take you to a new page.

Next use the dropdown boxes to select your PSU (**EVGA**, **SuperNOVA G2 1300**), and then the dropdown box for what case you're using (probably "**my case is not listed**"), then click "**continue to next step**" at lower right. This will take you to a new page.

Next page is to select cable sleeving colors for either the ModMesh or ModFlex cables. I went with "**ModFlex**" purely because it's not as stiff as ModMesh, and therefore easier to work with (imo). So click on a color (black or whatever), then click "**continue to next step**" at lower right. This will take you to a new page.

Now you get to choose if you want to go "**Pro**" or "**Classic**" option. Select the "**Pro**" option image as this gives you thicker cables, cable combs included (and they look really good), and the 12V-2x6 connector you will need. Then click "**continue to next step**" at lower right. This will take you to a new page.

This page you will see a drop down for the type of cable you need. Scroll down and click on the option "**12V-2x6 16 pin to 4x8 pin stealthsense PCIE cable for NVidia 50-40 series (GPU) (44.90 USD)**" NOTE: that is just the straight connector at the GPU end. If you scroll down that list a little further there are also options for 90 degree angled connector at the GPU end; either **Variant A** or **Variant B** (price is the same). If you want a 90 degree connector at the GPU end, you'll need to look closely at your 5090 and decide what direction it's going to be at (like up or down from where it comes out of the 5090). Here's an image of the adapter variants which I believe is correct:
893151eaopqe1.jpg

So make your choice from that dropdown list, then click the little "**+Add**" to the right of it. You will then get to choose cable length with a groovy slider thing. The default is 600mm. Go with that, or change it if you wish. Then click "**continue to next step**" at lower right. This will take you to a new page.

On the next page you can configure the colors on each wire in the cable if you wish. This is pretty cool. You can leave them all black (or whatever color you chose earlier), or add some wires with different colors (for example, mine is all black except the two middle wires are blue). Just click a color then click on the wire you want to be that color. You can even change the cable shroud color and the cable comb color. Once you're happy with how it looks, click "**continue to next step**" at lower right. This will take you to a new page.

This page you can select additional cables, thumbscrews, etc. etc. that you might want. Once you're done, scroll down to near the bottom and click "**Add my cable kit to shopping cart**" and after a few seconds you'll be taken to the cart to check out.

Amazingly good system for ordering cables.

ENJOY!

u/CableMod_Matt please let me know if I got the variant types correct there.

Seasonic says those cables will work with their ATX 3.0 PSUs. I'm assuming that Titanium 1300 is a Seasonic Prime TX-1300. https://seasonic.com/native-12v-2x6-cable/

12VHPWR and 12V-2x6 are plug compatible. 12V-2x6 sockets have longer power pins and shorter sense pins, but the cable is the same. I bought one of those too before I realized it was the same as the 12VHPWR cable that came with the PSU. Oops.

I'd just use the Seasonic cable.

I have the older PX Titanium ATX 3.0 model, before the 12VHPWR connector was a thing. And this PSU didn't have those cables specifically for the video card as this power supply was designed before then, Even though my PSU is a Seasonic 1300w Titanium, it's a great PSU but slightly outdated today.

I might bite the bullet and just get the TX version today at MC, could always reuse this PSU in another build I'm thinking of doing for a casual game box in a different room, got enough parts sitting around, like a used i9 13900k, and 32GB DDR-5, and a Z790 motherboard and a Corsair 5000D case, all those parts just collecting dust in my basement office, to complete this second rig I just need a power supply and cheap video card that can play World of Warcraft at 1440p..

Not sure what to do here?

Sonce my current Seasonic was made well before the ATX 3.1 spec and did not come with specific 12h cables for the GPU

Do I buy and use the ones linked earlier in this thread from that BTOS company?

Or get a new ATX 3.1 PSU?

You could get by with the older PSU honestly. The new cable will be fine for your use.

Just keep your power supply and get that cable I linked you to.

Thanks for the advice guys, appreciate it.

Yeah my current Seasonic Titanium 1300w PSU is a very good power supply, spent a pretty penny on it back in 2022, so this should be good for a while still

It's just not a ATX 3.1 PSU

Ah ok. I thought you had a 12VHPWR model since you said it was the ATX 3.0 model. 3.0 = 12VHPWR, 3.1 = 12V-2x6.

I have been using fasgear for past year and some change. It powers my 5090 and powered the 4090 before it. It was the only option available and compatible with my EVGA 1300 G2 from 2015.

If you bought the right cable you should be fine. Make sure to read the compatible PSU list. I also got one that uses 3 PCIe vs 2 just because.

This is the one you need which is the same I used for my PSU. Although mine is black.

Oh you already ordered. Good luck. I am still not sold on 2 PCIe to 12VHPWR but many people have been running those just fine so you should be OK as well.

I have that set, cane in a few days ago, but the thin wires scared me, I never put these on.

Package just came in from BTOS

A+ on protective shipping, and the cables seem a bit thicker nicer than the ones off Amazon

Please learn how to use a phone camera's focus. We are not discussing bubble wrap.

Contacted customer support, they replied quickly

" Cables look as intended and fine to me. The picture angle you sent may be deceptive. Check the wire connecting to those two pins. If you connect your GPU card and those two wire do not retract or become loose. ( They did not ) Then the connection is perfect. If those two wires are loose and can be pulled out from behind, then you have two loose wires.

Just so your aware BTOS is an official direct vendor of Seasonic cables and wires. Our cables are licensed and certified and specifically designed for Seasonic power supplies. You're cable photos you sent me look exactly like the thousands we've shipped over the last couple years. "

Best Regards "

Thinking of buying a angled Cable Mod Cable but I had two year of luck with my current Cable Mod cable. I waited because I wasn't sure if type A or B would work. My case is big enough where it don't push against the glass but it's suspended in the air to the right side.

The cable is exactly the same between ATX 3.0 and 3.1

The changes are on the PSU and Card connector end. The cable is the same.
