*SOLVED*
In conclusion: Certain Rosewill series (the Stallion, Green) are very low quality and early on that was all Rosewill had.
Added to this fact is that Rosewill is Newegg in disguise. Being a budget brand hasn't helped their reputation either, so they dont have a great image among the tech community.

The newer units, like the HIVE are made by a good OEM and are of decent quality.
Therefore, the HIVE is a good, budget modular PSU, and is the one I purchased.

Obviously there are better PSUs out there. There are vast differences in quality and price of course and a higher end enthusiasts PSU can cost a few hundred dollars.
I'm looking for good quality at a more reasonable price and this is where the Hive series comes into play.

~~~~~~~
I've been looking at PSU's and was wondering if anyone had any experience with this PSU (or any insight).
Is it good for the price or should I forget about it?
I'm looking for a modular PSU in the sub $90 range with ≥650 watts.
I'm a college student & first time builder, so I'm not looking for anything fancy, just quality.
As for 650w, do I really need it?
I used the eXtreme calculator and got 650w min.
Here's what I'm planning.
I've already purchased my i5-3570K & ASUS P8Z77-V PRO
I am probably going to OC the i5 from 34000 to 44000. (Air cooled)
Use 4 sticks of RAM
SSD (boot)
2 ~ 7200rpm HDDs
2 ~ 120mm fans
2 ~ 80mm fans
Uncertain what GPU I'm going to get, but have been looking at <$200 cards:
Radeon HD 7850 2 GB
Radeon HD 7770
GeForce GTX 650 Ti
I also am looking for the possibly be able to SLI/Crossfire in the future.
As for what I do on my computer, it's mostly gaming, but I do need to use design software like Adobe, CAD & Revit products.
Appreciate it.
Ive never heard of it. and that's a bad sign. No offense, but you want to stick to known brands when it Comes to power supplies.
Here's a good list
http://www.eggxpert.com/forums/thread/323050.aspx
You should definitely be able to find a good PSU for price range. And remember that watts aren't everything... You're better off with a 650w good quality than a 900w off brand.
I usually use Seasonic and Corsair because they have very good quality and customer service. I know they are more expensive compare to other power supply but if you willing to wait you will be able to grab one for under $100 when it goes on sale.
I saw this Seasonic 750w for $100 and it come with $15 mall in rebate which equal 85$
:( too bad it just expired and the price went back to $150.
Good deal or bad deal?
THIS
I'm kinda wary because of all the missing cables. Will getting them drive the price way up, or is it no worry?
The link may have been removed, but the $50-ish price of that PSU is a definite giveaway that it's a really crappy PSU that can barely handle even half of its claimed wattage without risking severe and expensive damage to many if not most of your PC's components. Good 650W+ modular PSUs cost far more than $50-ish even at their lowest discounted prices. Heck, even good non-modular 650W PSUs cost a lot more than the $50-ish price tag of that "KenTech" "775W" PSU.
Those PSU you keep linking are crap, including that thermaltake missing cables. The good news is your build doesn't need 750, or even 650w. Look in the 500w range and you will be able to find a good unit for your budget.
I'm currently running my 3570k at 4.6, HD7950 at 1250mhz, 2 SSD, one 7200rpm HDD, an H-100 and several fans off of an Enermax NAXN 550w. It cost me around $60 I think locally and works great (one of the few enermax I would buy). There are plenty in the $50-70 range. You don't need any more for your system as all of the GPU you listed use a single 6-pin connector so SLI/CF are no problem in the future. FYI my build at full load pulls around 270w from the wall running Prime95 and Furmark at the same time. I have plenty of headroom.
Bad deal. Even if you can order the missing cables, that will drive up the effective cost of that PSU to a lot higher than what it is currently worth (in this condition).
I like corsair psu's havent had a problem with them. They were used heavily in bitcoin mining a while back and still runs like they were brand new. Very efficient haha
Get that. Great price, performs well, and is partially modular. I honestly don't care about it being used or new as long as it's a reliable PSU. And that Rosewill HIVE is certainly no slouch. ;)
I agree, that is a nice price and I have also used rosewill psu and tortured them great buys for the price.
Guess they have fixed problems from previous psus?
By fixed you mean got a better OEM? For this model yes. I'm sure they still have some crappy ones around but that particular unit is very good.
Ok, I'm REEEEEEALY on the verge of buying the Rosewill Hive 650
Why? Because it's modular and I HATE all those damn cable in my box.
But I found 2 other really good deals out there. If you can convince me, I'll take one of the bundled PSU's instead.
Corsair very nice psu however lots of cables and i mean lots... which is clutter... too bad that modular.
honestly all three should be solid if you want modular go for rosewill. alkl are plus bronze certified and rosewill will safe a bit of $
I am running
the Corsair 750 on this pc
2x 6870
msi mpower mb
2600k
32gb ram (8gbx4)
ssd
sata hdd
11 fans?
Looks like the Cooler Master GX 750W is built on the same design as the FSP 750W that Kyle recently tested and failed. I'd be cautious on that one.
The only thing holding me back now from the Roswill is that I read on another forum that Roswill is bad quality, and I should stay away from it.
Any truth to that, or are they just fanboys?
Anyone who ever says this PSU is good doesn't know what they're talking about:
There's some truth to that if we're talking about other Rosewill PSUs. However the one you linked happens to be a good one.
Personally however, I'd go with the Corsair TX750 if it's the TX 750 V2 model and is actually brand new. If all of the PSUs you listed are used, then go for the Rosewill.
I have the form all filled out and about to press pay for the $66 Rosewill.
Stop me now, if you must!
I was fightback this exact same issue this weekend when my HTPC PS died. The Hive for $60 piqued my interest as well due to the reviews, price, and of course being modular.
A good PSU will last for a long time and is not something you want to skimp on.
Better to be safe then sorry and spend a few $$ more. I wouldnt put a cheap PSU in any of my comps, even if its an extra. I dont want to see any sparks and fires if I dont have to, and it would
be my fault for putting the PSU in there.
