So my video card died while I was playing Eve last night. So I have been trying to price new ones so I have an idea about how much I'd need to save up. I do game on the computer, but not with a really big screen (19" crt). I have a 5200 proc I believe with 1 gig of RAM (I know I really need more RAM). I mostly play older games. I think the newest game I have installed right now (not counting my eve demo) is R6 Vegas 2.

If there were only pages the had benchmarks of video cards.

It's a budget card. What video card died on you?

honestly no not really look for a 9600gso, an awesome budget card, or even a 9600gt on the ati side a 3800 series 512mb would be nice i would also throw at least another gig of memory in your rig considering how cheap it is

My old card is a 1950 pro. I have looked at reviews. Problem is they only seem to look at max behavior in games I don't play or own. I don't know how to translate that data into something that is applicable to my situation. Which is why I asked. I know that I had seen a table that listed all of the different video card familes and what they were comparable to and step-ups. I can't find that. That information was a lot more helpful to me than the benchmarks.

It is cheap for RAM. Unfortunately my hours just got major cut at work so money is super tight. I really can't even afford a new card, but I can ask for an early b-day present or something.

The two reasons I liked this card are 1) it is passively cooled and I have a slot cooler if it needs more help for whatever reason. I sleep in the same room as my computer so I like it as quiet as possible. 2) it has a VGA output, so I don't have to use an adapter. The 9600 gso might be feasible.

no, the 9500gt sucks, or rather ATI outclass them badly at that level.
48 dollars AR of 15

or for a little more

this beats the 9600GSO without needing a PCIe power cord.

I would say that a 1950pro is faster than that card. I would look around and wait a bit. I've seen radeon 3850s for around $40 but you have to be quick on deals like that.

9600 gso for about 50 bucks A/R.
GSo

I wouldn't go much less than this in terms of power. If you want a cheaper price go used.

Personally, I would avoid any "super budget" card like that.

The memory bus is only 128-bit and it is not really a gaming card at all.

I would lean more towards an ATI 4830... or possibly an Nvidia 9600 series... although the 4830 will blow it out of the water.

i just got this sapphire HD4650 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102805 $54.00 $10.00 MIR its probably about like a 3850 but requires no extra power.

i was on a really tight budget and it plays dead space 1280 * 1024 30 to 40 fps everything on or medeum or on no af. played cryses everything medium 1024 x 768 but boy it had hard times in levels with lots of flyers where fps droped to 15 to 25 sometimes, plays ut3 like a champ though

just a thought if i'm rong somebody let me know. fan gets kind of loud under load.... spin up.....spin down.... up down....up down

Does anyone remember that chart I am talking about? It had a column of ATI cards on one side and nvidia on the other and showed not only which cards from the two companies were comparable to each other but also ranked them from quickest to slowest.

As others have mentioned the HD4650 or HD4670 for ~$60 is a good buy.

The 9600GSO or HD3850 are other decent choices priced similarly, but require more power and have less features.

It is a low end gaming card. There is no game I know of that you won't e able to play at least on low, but there are few games you will be playing on high.

I wouldn't use an 8500GT if Nvidia paid me.

Well that depends, I got a spare PC right now in need of a GPU, so as long as Nvidia didn't tell me where to use it I would go with it for a spare PC if I had to.....and if they paid me.

I don't know if I am just blind, but I can't find that link on toms hardware, anywhere. Can anyone help me out with some linkage?

8500gt's are super budget cards not really ment for gaming, the X600 or now X60 cards from nvidia are usually the budget gaming cards, they are good enough to play games and they dont cost too much, my recomendation is for a 9600gt or something

I put a low profile 8500gt in my brother's slim Dell last year.. let's just say it averages around 20 fps in Left 4 Dead at 1024x768 with everything on low and in DirectX 8.0 mode.

I wouldn't use it for any games made after 2003, although it's good for a home theater PC though as it can hardware decode AVC (Blu-ray).

I believe its under the 'Best Graphics Card for the Money' articles. Usually the last page of the article that has the chart.

That would be why I couldn't find it...I was looking for an article all of it's own. I think you are my new hero.
