I've ordered two crucial mx300 750GB from amazon as a black Friday deal, but I've read reviews from people who have already received it saying that amazon is reselling the faulty SSDs that customers send back without fixing them.

I will receive the drives tomorrow, what software should I use to check for the drives health? I know CrystalDiskMark but it tests the speed only and not the overall health.

There really isn't a good way to check SSD health. You could look at the SSD life left with CrystalDiskInfo but that should be 100% and remain 100% even after a year of usage..

just install crucial storage exec.. and on id 9 will be power on hours count .... should be a low number
if new

I don't know if it's reset back to zero when you sanitize drive ?

I highly doubt that amazon or any other retailer even powered up the drive. I guess these days instead of sending products back to the manufacturer it's cheaper to send them out to a different customer and have the customer do the leg work for the retailer..

With that the POH should be close to 0. If it is not you most likely have a used drive.

CrystalDiskInfo will provide you with the power on count and hours used. It's a Windows app that neatly gives you SMART info on drives.

this...and if you find out they sent you a used drive i would file several complaints and post the hard data online proving it.

I would be shocked too see them that brazen. They won't get away with it very long and the possible backlash would be massive. (PR/legal)

Also sanitizing just wipes data. It has no impact of SMART. Can SMART even be edited.....is it even possible? I mean the raw values not the thresholds.

Access the right pins on the board and you can drop into a terminal and reset just about any data in smart, or perform any operations the manufacturer allows in monitor. You just have to know the proper pins and commands.

yea doubtful amazon or any retailer would go through that effort....vs just sending back to manufacturer

Thanks guys for the replies, I used CrystalDiskInfo and the crucial storage software and both say the drives are new and in good health, then i used CrystalDiskMark and I'm really satisfied with the results.

The boxes had a transparent label with the barcode on it as the only seal, I can't say if they were already opened or they were recycled from products that customers sent back, but the drives are fine so i'm happy.

Here are the CrystalDiskMark benchmarks

what are the power on hours and start and stops? do you recall if you are close to 0? That is all that matters
