I woke up this morning to see my computer was off, I never turn it off only for the occasional reboot for windows updates or drivers. So i walk over immediately to see what happened, and i turn the power on. It makes a loud screeching sound, but powers on fine, in face im using it now, almost an hour since i turned it on and everything seems fine.

My first though was the PSU because it's a 500watt psu that came with my case (Yes I know...tsk tsk)
My CPU is an Intel E4500 Overclocked to 3.2 ghz but has been stable for the past month almost at those speeds and idles at about 30 degrees.
The case is plenty ventilated, with 5 case fans.

i dont think the hard drive could crash like that, or make that noise.

Maybe I'm going about this all wrong....help me....

I obviously don't have much money at all or i would have bought a new power supply already. :(

Edit: thinking about it, maybe the screech was one of the fans, and it was a coincidence that it happened now, hard to tell from the half awake state i was in.

does it screech everytime you start it up? Stick your head in the case with your finger on the reset button and figure out whats making the screech. I don't think its a fan since fans don't screech, they just make funny grinding sounds and squeeks. If it is a fan, I've never heard of oiling them, although it doesn't seem like a bad idea as long as you only get it on the bearings. Also, I would prefer buying high quality ball-bearing fans as opposed to oiling them.
