Ok as you can see in my sig that is my current setup. Back when i first got the computer and OCed the processor i watched my temps as i ran orthos and even manually felt the NB heatsink (i dont know if this is a smart thing to do but my buddy said it doesnt hurt anything cuz its just a sink). So i was just taking a picture for a friend about 10 minutes ago when i decided to feel it again. The NB was hot as hell i couldn't keep my knuckle on it for more than 2 seconds (this is at idle). Ive been gaming all day without any sort of direct fan cooling on the NB and it ran fine all day cept the few lag spikes but my ISP is also crapping out. So i closed it back up and went back to surfing [H] when all the sudden it turned off. I pushed the button to turn it back on and it turned on for a split second and turned off. Well i reset the CMOS and returned everything to default and the NB still seems way to hot. Yes i regularly dust out my computer. It is working again but I'm kinda wary about its reliability now. I just want to know if this motherboard is on its way out.

If you're worrying about heat, you could always put a fan over the heatsink. The Antec Spotcool would work for that or you could tape down a case fan.

I find that my northbridge (and southbridge) heatsinks are pretty hot to the touch too, but it's not abnormal for northbridges to be over 60C (depending on the chipset). Then again, I've heard that MSI products aren't exactly the most reliable.

im running a similiar setup with a e6750 @ 3.0ghz, 2GB Ram, p35-dsr3 mobo, 1Tb total, with my new GTX 285. I think i need a p45 mobo to really utilize my GTX 285. I think this mobo has pci x16 but its not pcie 2.0 x16. Not sure what difference it would make on my FPS, but it wouldnt hurt.

I have thought about going to a p45 mobo, q6600, and 4gb ram.

I just couldnt justify a SSD, X58, 1366 socket CPU, RAM, new PSU, etc. I dont think the performance justifies the cost. I could spend less, overclock the q6600, etc.

I am not a pc expert, so thats just my opinion.

deciding between going to a q6600 with new mobo and RAM, or getting an SSD and putting off new mobo and proc.

I kind of rather do SSD for performance gain and do mobo/cpu when better chips are available. My current PC seems to still be going fast.

Ok, what exactly will you be doing with this PC that you feel warrants an upgrade?

Also note that there is no performance difference between PCI-E 1.1 and PCI-E 2.0. As such, there's no reason to upgrade to a P45 motherboard unles your P35 mobo is dead and out of warranty.
