Is ATI on top yet?

Short answer: no.

The 2900 isn't doing as bad as it was at first, but nVidia is still the king.

at the moment, very far from it. Hopefully with this next round of cards they won't be doing so bad.

I don't mean whos making the most money or getting the most sales, I mean what card actually performs the best?

Most sales = Intel
Most money = Intel? I think.
Best Performance = nVidia

Don't forget about integrated video!!

The 8800 Ultra is still king right now for single GPU.

The 2900 XT lines up with the 8800 GTS 640 MB in performance.

I'm sure nvidia's gets way better margins on their products than intel, for about the same price as the northbridge chip, you get an igp.

GTX in SLi if you really want to go bananas. ATi's offering is "almost" on par with nVidia's equal counterpart, it's still behind in most titles though (except for CoJ and Source based games are about even with a preference in IQ settings) and DX10 isn't even funny. Again the short answer is a solid "no", end thread if no more questions :p. Oh and welcome if you're new (or returning form a long hiatus) :D.

The 2900s perform roughly on par with the 8800GTS's, for the most part they trade blows in game benchmarks. In general, the 2900s perform somewhat slower with AA on. There are some games out now where the 320mb GTS's lack of texture memory allow the 2900s to run circles around it. I expect that this situation will worsen for the 320mb cards as time progresses.

I am very happy with the performance I get from my 2900.

Well I sure hope ATI gets their stuff together so we can have some truely neck in neck competition for lower prices.

Next month things should start to get more competitive barring some delay.

ATi is mopping up in the sales department--they've scored several key OEM customers. ATi isn't paying attention to their High end this time around, rather their base.

NVidia still comes out on top with performance.
