Is ABIT still alive?

What happened to ABIT? I dont hear about them anymore!

I remember having a TH7II ABIT motherboard in the days of the P3 and it rocked!!!

Yeah, they've dropped the ball with the A64. Took them ages to get out an NF3 based board, and by that time the market was on the verge of 939, or everyone was using a DFI. Then, they put out a few K8T890 boards for 939, except that everyone was jumping on the NF4, and by the time they got out some NF4 boards, people had the DFI (again :p ) and their products were extremely underwhelming (poor voltage, poor o/cing options, and that Fatal1ty wanker, don't get me started).
Finally, they've started having another go. It's late, but they've put out things like the AN8 series, which uses a heatpipe, has good voltage adjustment, and is doing some nice things in the O/C department. And it doesnt have Jon fucking Wendel smiling at you every time you turn it on, grinning like the oft we all know he is.
Just needs a few more BIOS revisions, it seems.
They've been doing good in the P4 department, with some nice clocking stuff like the AW8, etc, but who buys a P4 to overclock these days?

I had to RMA my IC7-G Max 2 today - so I called them and they answered the phone. ;)

They came out with that whole Fatality line of products - which I was not sure was a good line when it was introduced.......

Fatality - DFI Wins.

The latest official 17 BIOS solved ALL of my issues...the 16 BIOS however, SUCKED ASS......

My AN8 is jamming...and no, I did not get the fat wanker version. Just the AN8 SLI, for when I add another GTX in a few months... :p

i got an ax8 and it works great i wish it had some what better detailed options like instead of going from multiplier 12 to 11 i want 11.5

I love my Fatality AN8 I have not a clue why people are down on them. It's a great board...and got some really good reviews...one here as I might add. It does OC well according to reviews and was said it and the DFI were the best 2 boards.

I had an AX8 as well...it was a great board. I liked it a lot. BTW you shouldn't use .5x multi's for A64's ;) It fubars with the memory dividers.

what do u mean exactly? my vocab isnt that big

Abit used to be alot better than they are rigth now.... for whatever reason, they used to be the King of Overclocking, now, they lost that respect because DFI makes some outstanding mobos, and took Abit out of the spotlight.

The memory clock speed on the A64's is derived from the htt in combination with the multiplier. Um...I won't go into too much detail, but suffice it to say if you use a .5x multi your memory won't run at the speed you think it should. (it'll run considerably lower than what it should run at with a given htt and divider)

ABIT better be alive. Just incase my IC7-G MII(which has been a pleasure using since i've purchased it) DIES. ;[

Is the overclocking performance of the fatality boards any better than the like models from which they are derived?

no, htey just have more crap bundled with them and a few extra features here and there

So why cash out so much more dough for them?
EDIT
because they marketed it as '1337'

After Oskar Wu left Abit to work at DFI, they haven't done a whole lot for the enthusiast crowd. They are making much better, enthusiast oriented products now. Unfortunately, they have that retarded Fatal1ty trademark on them.

Yeah, their best BIOS programmer hitched a ride on teh DFI train...its no wonder everyone raves about the overclockability of DFI products (yet they are not particularly stable boards). And that is what I remember about Abit boards, great flexibility in terms of BIOS options, but tweaking them was (seemed) like a never ending task.

Then Abit had some financial problems that were pretty well publicized, along with the whole capacitor fiasco/lawsuit...

Then most recently they have missed the "extended" deadline to file their accounting info to the Taiwan Stock Exchange...apparently the accounting firm they hired can't get their shizzit together.

If you remember correctly EVERY manufacturer had the faulty caps...not just Abit. Asus and every other manufacturer that bought caps around the A7V133 era. Abit just took the responsibility to let customer's RMA the boards when noone else did.

Abit Bioses were always pretty easy to understand even if you were a complete n00b as I was when I built my first computer using a IT7-Max2 v.2. I liked it better than my subsequent MSI, Asus, DFI, Chaintech, ASRock, and probably some other boards since then :).

That being said, their memory compatibility sucks nowadays. I'm always wondering if new RAM is going to work when I buy it.

They were (maybe still are) on the verge of being booted from the Taiwanese stock exchange. I understand they didn't make requested financial disclosures until about the 3rd time they wee requested to do so.

I hope they make it, but it just shows how the worm turns in the hardware buz.

wow really? are they doing that bad? cuz if they were how could they afford to sponser that homo and still make great boards in my opinion

Yes. They're all but out of business. Their sales have plummeted, and they're in trouble with the government.

See this article, for example.

this is a shame.....I have been an ABIT user since I started on these forums back with the BH6 and KT133a chipset. Its sad to see such a once AWESOME company lose so much of the market and having thier books in the red doesnt help...

Long live my nf7-s (until I go A64....DFi here I come)

Eh, the mobo on my last system, a P4, was an Abit, an IC7. It OCed well n all, but had so many issues with their stupid NB fan. Luckily, once I put on the replacement HSF from them, and the fan died, the system still ran OCed stable with passive cooling. But I kinda lost faith in them. I'm happy enough with my DFI.
