Does anyone have experience using the onboard graphics with some of the new 4th gen Intel i7 chips with Iris Pro. My main interest is image editing using two Dell U2713H monitors at 2560x1440. It would be great if i could eliminate a graphics card.

I can't imagine there would be any problems, 2 monitors is purely OS level stuff since you aren't spanning them to present a single virtual display.

which notebook are you targeting exactly, because you will need 2 DP or 1 DL-DVI + 1 DP to run these monitors . or fork out the money to a DP splitter.

I do not own a notebook. I use an ATX tower with an Asus ATX board, but plan to use a fan-less case with a microATX board, possibly by BCM Advanced Research, such as the RX87Q http://www.bcmcom.com/bcm_product_RX87q.htm

Again, I plan to use an i7 that supports Iris Pro 5200, not all i7 chips support the technology.

You're out of luck then because Iris Pro is BGA only (soldered to the motherboard) and intended for the AIO and mobile market. Best you can get for LGA is HD4600.

The 4770R has iris pro but you cannot buy it, it is only available to OEMs so that they can solder it to a custom mainboard. Or you can get a portable computer with Iris Pro - The upcoming macbook pros will have Iris Pro. But, you cannot use Iris Pro in a DIY system as it won't be available for LGA as mentioned.

Another option is the upcoming Haswell NUC which will be using HD5000 - Intel is "considering" an Iris Pro NUC, but so far it has not been announced. The HD5000 Haswell NUC is being released in October.
