IPS overated?

So since this is about IPS monitors, I'm certainly looking at the few 30" 2560x1600 models out there to get rid of my 3840x1024 triple-gaming monitor setup (mostly tired of games not supporting very-wide gaming resolutions). Which one do you guys feel is better for gaming?

Note that the prices on the manufacturers' sites are going to be quite a bit higher than what you can get them for from resellers like Newegg and others. Dell often has coupons online too.

So what monitor would you choose from those three and why?

He didn't really specify whether he was comparing it to a TN though. I mean really for me too, the off angle glow is one of the drawbacks of ips screens, I mean hypothetically if it didn't exist from a viewing angle perspective ips screens would be practically perfect.

TNs/PVAs have there own off angle viewing issues as well, but I'd describe them differently.

It's a little different. More or less it is a white glow that you only see with dark colors on the screen. Not the same sort of thing as the shift that TNs do.

TN screens have both the viewing angle issues AND they also have the white glow issue. Here is my 2490 (left) compared to my 1707fp Dell TN (right) screen. Showing straight on, from the left side, and from the right side. Note my NEC has a A-TW filter so it doesn't glow. The TN screen has the same glow that is on IPS screens without A-TW.

Thanks for the comparison photos! :) That's a great example of the viewing angle differences.

Any ideas on how much difference that input lag makes? Or is it not noticeable?

One thing I love about buying monitors from Dell is that they have a dead/stuck pixel/dot guarantee. Others don't. Right now I use three Samsung 943BX monitors on a TripleHead2Go device and am lucky that I have no stuck/dead pixels/dots.
