Hello people, after 1 burned mobo i am back with another question..
Does the ipod really worth the money?? i dont care about space (512 r more than enough),i dont care if it looks good.
My problem is this: does the sound is better than the other mp3 players?? is it so good to worth the extra euros to pay for it??
I am looking for creative muvo products aswell which i like a lot, so i was wondering which one to choose, the ipod mp3 player, creative muvo or something else??
My primary targets r: quality of sound, portability and general quality...
So does it worth it or not???thanx a lot :)

YES! The iPod is the best mp3 player on the market. I wish my 10gig one would die so I could have an excuse to get one of the newer models. I have had a few mp3 players and none of them sound as good as the iPod does. One thing you will want to do is get a decent set of head phones and ditch the ear buds that come with the iPod. They are uncomfortable and don't sound that great either.

not sure why you don't care about space, but I think that one of the reasons i got the 40 gig ipod as opposed to some of the solid state small mp3 players was space. I really really like having my whole collection on one device.

So if you really don't care about space then i would say don't get an ipod...but i think once you have to deal with only 512mb you will get sick of it and wish you had more space.

The Creative Zens are a lot cheaper than Ipod, but I went with ipod for the click wheel...well worth it IMO.

Dell DJ has awesome sound quality and is actually affordable. I got a 15gb for $149. They are built very good, I heard they were actually designed by Creative.

Get an iriver... they are working on third party firmware and if you don't know what that means, your player will be 1000% more versatile than any ipod.

thanx guys really thanx.so practicaly u say to think about space again and try to check the big devices..dell ipod and rio..so no creative....

Everyone I know who has owned a dell dj had not been happy.

The iPod's sound quality isn't that great, not like any MP3 player on the market is. I'd say it is no better or worse than the major offerings right now. It's perhaps the most portable of the > 5 GB MP3 players out there, if by only a few millimeters. In terms of build quality, I think it's second to none. There is nothing cheap looking about the entire package, and everything feels snug and sturdy. Still, I keep mine wrapped up in a clear plastic sleeve to prevent scratches, but I think any MP3 player would call for that same kind of care.

I bought it for its slim dimensions and appearance, and its excellent user interface. If you use the educational discount, the iPod is fairly competitive in price, too.

I've had 5 iPods (via Best Buys replacement plan, and a weird streak of faulty batteries, backlights, and fucked screens), a Creative Xtra 20gb, and a Dell Dj (15gb)

Needless to say, my current one is the 4g ipod 40Gb, they now make a color 60gb called the iPod photo, but its $600 so screw that

when going for mp3 devices, check out cnet.com's mp3 section

IMO

Apple (or Hp + Apple)
IRiver
Rio (it would be higher up, possibly #1 if they made anything larger than 20gb)
Creative (the touch is the new one)

personally I find that having an iPaq + a removable storage card is better. video + organizer + games + contact list + etc = better.

To each his own, but I prefer the simple, uncluttered, speedy menu system of most MP3 players. I would also quickly outgrow the storage capacities of any palm PC. Finally, one could argue that some MP3 players (iPod, for one) have games, organizer, and contact list functions as well.

If you really need to always have 40GB of music, the iPod is better. But if you're going to be carrying the iPaq around anyway... a 4GB CF card costs less then the iPod mini and the CF card take 0 additional room...

and dont even say that an iPod has the same level of games/organizer/contact list as an iPaq...

I've heard some bad things too, but mine is perfect. I'm also a "mid-level" audiophile/headphone freak, and the DJ just sounds better to me than the Ipod (tested using Sennheiser HD580s and a PPA amp). The DJ's battery life is also great, around 20hours. The ipod sure is sexy though :p

My Axim is the same thing. It if I am correct has an AC97 sound chip in it. Sounds pretty damn good to me. I am switching between Beta Player and GSPlayer right now. WM10 isn't that great.

Cheers,

I have the 4g 20gig Ipod. First one kept freezing and the battery wasnt lasting long enough. I took it back to Best Buy and got another one. Things are going pretty well now. Only drawback is the price.

The new dell's look pretty good. And the prices are better than the ipods.

I have an alternative to the mp3 players
A sony Mini Disc player
its one of the new Hi-md
i have 1gb space on each disc
up to 50 hours of music
the discs are <$8 each
60sec antiskip
over 50 HOURS on a single AA battery
cost was $150new
it weighs about 6oz

I basicly only have 1 disc made
with about 35 hours of music on it

I have a creative Nomad Zen Xtra 40gb. I love it. I like the interface better than the ipod and it has a easily removable battery. It can be also be used for data storage, although it isn't as seemless as an ipod.

IMO ipods are as much a fashion statement as a mp3 player. I think it is over priced. Write down all the features you want than look at all the mp3 players that have them. List them in this thread and it would be much easier for the rest of us to recommend the best one.

I've got a bit of a bias as I'm an owner, but the oft-stated claim that iPods are just a fashion statement is kind of annoying. I mean, go sue Apple for creating an appealing design (to some people) that is also functional...? But we all have our criteria, don't we?

iPods are a fad. Almost like every popular item they will have their downfall. I really think that they are too expensive for what they are, but thats my own opinion.

Cheers,

I've got a Dell DJ and I love it. My brothers both have Ipods, and thought I should have a portable MP3 player too and chipped in together and bought me one. I couldn't be happier. I think the interface is far more intuitive with being able to add songs to what your current playlist contains to organization of the files on the actual drive.

I've seen what Ipod does with its internal folder structure and it is absolute mayhem.

I couldn't recommend anything else more than the DJ.

How is the iPod's interface less intuitive when what you described is exactly how it works on the iPod? Your iPod synchronizes as you update your iTunes playlist.

And who cares about the folder structure when it's not meant to be visible and accessible? It's like judging a car by the neatness of its internal wiring.

is it just me? i would rather own something else than than ipod. I just don't like running to everyone and they have the same thing as me.

beside, I can use my pda (sony clie th55) as a mp3 player. it is smaller than an ipod and definitely can do more than what ipod can do. you name it. online surfing, game, photo album (480*340 resolution, beautiful screen), take pictures, movie, etc.

my pda cost a little bit more than ipod, but worth it. :D

and the white headphone wires are just an invitation to get robbed...

My current delimma with HD mp3 players...is the size of them.

I'm seriously thinking of picking up a 1gig flash drive mp3 player....something like those creative nomad ones that are out. What I want to do right now is SAVE space.

I'm also looking for something that works like a portable HD and connects to XP automatically without any extra software.

I hate how large my Creative Jukebox Zen 20gb USB2.0 mp3 player is...it's HUGE....not so big without the protective cover, but I wouldn't dare take that out considering I use it while working on a construction site...

I need something I can put around my neck and tuck under my shirt and let it play over and over.

So, with all this in mind...if you want something that is rather small...do NOT get a zen. I'm not sure how large the new touch players are...but the one I have is large with the protective cover on.

bingo. College campus, seems every other person walking to class has those white wires sneaking up to their ears...

The stock headphones blow. If anything, it's an indication of who cares about sound quality (even on an MP3 player) and who doesn't.

I read everyday about which MP3 player is better. It is all personal taste and choice.

Honestly though, about 3 months ago, my wife bought an Ipod and I did like it. However, she spent more than I was happy with.

I started researching MP3 players, all of the major brands and did comparisons.

I ultimately bought this and feel that I get a great deal and have a high quality product.

Is it as sexy as an Ipod? Nope. As small? Nope. But everything else about it is fantastic.

Here is a comparison chart and this will tell you why I chose this player.

After reading that chart, I think you will see that the DMC 500 is the best all around player out there..

:D :D

i love my gen 1 dell jukebox 15gb.

it is an awesome device, and it is considerably cheaper than the ipods with similar storage space.

I hear the iriver is one of the best out there iriver 20gb it also has another controller which u can use instead of the one on the device itself ... they're the most recommended ones and definitely not as expensive as the ipod ...

I would definitely pick those over the ipod anytime if I would get myself to buy one but I'm into upgrading my pc instead and stickin with my 128mb mp3 player from iriver too ..

The sound quality is astonishing too .. very clear and crisp :D with 20hours of play on the flash mp3 player using 1 AA battery is good enough for me ...

thats more expensive than an ipod...

but its the other player i was looking at, now that my 15gig ipod got stolen. I ended up going with a new ipod though. I didn't like the controls of the iriver, my friend had one, and it was too big.

The ipod is absolutely fantastic. Its super small, fits in your pocket without the huge bulge of lots of players. Navigation is easy as heck. Yeah everyone has one but theres a reason... they're a great player.

and to the original poster, if 512 is enough space why even think of an ipod. The sound quality is no better than a small flash player, and its way more expensive.
