Who here is going to upgrade to the iPhone 4G when it's eventual release drops. Is anyone going to take advantage of early upgrades, full ready to go upgrades or even buy the device straight out?

I am stuck with the iPhone being my choice of phone due to the lack of decent android phones on the Rogers network. Heck if the milestone or shadow came to Rogers I'd pick on of them up in a heart beat.

So what's your take?

I bought a 3GS, never buying an iPhone again. I'm hoping Google has something sweet when my contract is up.

My rooted Droid does more now then iPhone 4G will ever do. I won't even mention Android 2.2 coming soon and how that will change things. Not to mention the awesome Droid Incredible and the upcoming Droid Shadow...

I want an android device of some sort, but buying an unlocked device is expensive. Personally id love a shadow. I'll have to keep my options open here. iPhone 4G might be my only recourse. My 3g is getting slow.

While I think a smart buyer would WAIT and see what the iPhone 4G actually offers before making these decisions I know many iPhone users would buy the iPhone 4G even if it was a soap bar with a string accessory...They would buy it knowing nothing even!

That said I am a happy Android user who has never touched an iPhone so take my opinion as you wish :)

Dont get me wrong, I will be watching the iPhone 4G with open eyes. The leaked information is looking promising, so I am still planning on getting one, just wish my options were a little more open.

I will see, lol contract ends this summer, Evo or iPhone 4G hard choices.

have a 3gs on its way to my house (im on tmo)

ill see what the 4g offers, i do like the design.

i really just want the HTC legend to come to the states

I have been waiting for a really good spec'd Android phone to come to AT&T, but none so far(Nexus One unlocked is too expensive and doesn't support AT&T 3G). So, i'll be stickin with iPhone. Even a jailbroken iPhone is starting to lose it's potential. I wanna go Android, because the platform just keeps getting better and better. It's just a matter of finding a really good spec/functioning phone.

My 3GS is the first and last iPhone I'll ever buy. I'm jumping to the Evo in a few weeks.

unless it's getting a significantly faster processor or faster data transfer (4G) then no... not worth it to me. My 3Gs is perfectly fine for the time being

My rooted Droid does more now then iPhone 4G will ever do

such as?

I will be skipping the 4g, I will be waiting for Windows Mobile Phone Series 7 phones.

After a month of owning a 3gs I'm looking for an alternative. The tiny 3.5" screen is just killing the experience for me. I'm going to wait and see if the next iPhone has a bigger display, if not I'm going with an evo or hd2. I'll check out the streak to while I'm at it, but I think 4.3" is sufficient.

I still dont have an Iphone yet, but plan on buying a 3gs when their prices drop. Seeing as most of the features the Iphone 4 is bragging about can be upgraded with the new OS.

Dropping my iPhone for an Evo. It always takes me 2 or 3 tries to place a call on my iPhone during lunch hour and then half the time it drops my call. I also have to deal with a lot of oversaturated areas where the data plan I'm paying for is completely useless.

Probably going to upgrade from my 3G. They did move my upgrade date to the 4G launch so I would be getting the full subsidized price earlier than usual. I like my current phone a lot but sometimes I get very annoyed with how slow it is. However, I will not buy it until I see some more in depth reviews and get some hands-on time with it. If I could switch carriers, I would do so immediately and get the Evo or Incredible but I am stuck with ATT for the foreseeable future.

Where's the "I already have a 3GS and I love it; I'd like to upgrade but b/c it's not cheap I will wait for another year or so" option.

I may. Currently using a 3G and contract just ended. Looking at Incredible, EVO, and iphone 4, but will wait until I see comparison reviews of all of them.

What exactly does a rooted droid do that a jailbroken iphone doesn't?

It is 4G (4th generation). It's not 4G cellular data.

But it's called iPhone 4.

The next model will be called 4G (if it supports 4G cellular standard) or 4GS or 4S (if it doesn't support 4G cellular standard) or something else.

Original post was May 26th before the name was announced. It was wildly speculated it would be called iPhone 4G or iPhone HD, but apple went with iPhone 4.

I digress.

I wonder if video calls will be over 3G here in Canada. Our networks can handle it.

I would think of possibly getting the iPhone if it was not on ATT.

AT+T completely rapes their customers for the full unlimited package on the iPhone,. When I had the 3G was paying $180+ w/ tax every month

Moved to T-Mobile this Winter and the Nexus-One with full unlimited everything and it is $99 per month, that is close to half the fucking price of ATT. I say F you to ATT and Verizon for their $150+ per month phone bills

I don't know if I'm being pulled in by the Jobs Reality Distortion Field, but the iPhone 4 looks damn nice. And I particularly love how they didn't just throw megapixels at the camera! It looks like the iPhone 4 is going to face the competition from Android head-on.

All this talk of who's going to upgrade and who isn't with their many reasons as to why. Well, I personally will be pre-ordering the phone and selling my 3GS 16GB for roughly $280 and use the funds to offset the cost of the iPhone 4 ($199.99 + tax + upgrade fee).

Why do I want an iPhone 4? I'm looking forward to the upgraded resolution, 5mp front/back camera w/flash, videochat, HD Video recording, and maintaining my usual internet browsing and texting experience with it.

Point is, cell phones are a personal preference and the decision should be made on what criteria you require. The iPhone meets my criteria.

Is that $150+/mo for 1 phone?

Yep. With the full unlimited everything plan, minutes, texts, data, etc...It was around $180 per month, for a single phone  Both my Brothers still have their 3G's and pay similar, I think they around $170+ or so.

That is a freaking rip off for a cell phone plan. In Europe it is not even close to that high price. Even hear in the States Sprint and T-Mobile are far cheaper, almost half as much.

My plan works perfect for me I run about 350 day minutes a month, 1200 to 1500 to my my5, about 200 ish text, less than 500mb of data and I have lots of room left over. I pay 100 for mine minus bundle discount.

Early upgrade for me. Man I can't wait to get my hands on this phone! I've got the iPhone 3G now and you can tell it's had some heavy use (it has) so it'll be nice to get a nice shiny new iPhone again :D

Service on my iPhone 3GS runs me $90 a month. That's 450 anytime minutes, unlimited early (7pm) night and weekends, unlimited text and data.

10% or 15% (I forgot) discount on my bill also because of the company I work for.

Ew. And unlimited means 5gb now right? And do you know how much you ACTUALLY use? I'm just curious... I saw it and figured, why not respond while responding to the OP ;) For reference, my company deal with telus nets me 3gb of data (Tethering included, natch. ) 450 anytime minutes, evenings at 6, unltd text... Never going to use nearly that much, but it's 55 a month and taxes...

I'm debating upgrading to it as a spare phone. I have a contract, eligible in dec 2010 so I will get early in, but I won't actually ever use the phone... I'm on Telus, Have an upgrade available on my old, no longer mine rogers line that I might get just for the hell of it...

The most I've used in one month is 2.4GB.

Your plan is a retention plan. Those plans are a lot more common up here then down in the states. You have 3GB but how much do you use?

Here's mine

I love my plan, it gives me the freedom to use my device how I want. I will however be in early upgrade status by the time the iPhone 4 comes out. I am just wondering what I will end up paying.

Ya, I can understand where your'e coming from OP, having Rogers for a SP as well. Their only android worth trying was the xperia x10, and I returned that pos in 3 days.

I don't have any complaints with the iPhone 3Gs. It's my first iPhone, and I will likely get their 4Gs when it comes around.

this is an iphone thread and all the droid people come flaming everyone
I do like the droid too bad at&t won't let any of them come to the phone lineup until august time.
