IP35 problem

I'm about to pull my hair out, but want to try and confirm my suspicion that my board is bad first. Installed my new IP35 yesterday. I cannot get access to the network. Installed vista twice. tried a the onboard nic, a pci nic and a wireless adaptor, but no network connection. Oddly enough, my USB mouse will not work. I can use a flash drive though, so I don't think USB is bad too.

I tried disabling the onboard nic in the bios, but when I do that, the computer won't boot and I have to reset the bios.

I know my network is up because I can connect wirelessly thru my laptop and also get a connection with my other pc.

I'm not sure what else to try before I RMA this thing.
 
So, you have tried clearing CMOS?
What BIOS version are you on?

If you have tried 3 different network devices then maybe the problem is on the router side e.g. permitted MAC addresses etc.?
 
I installed the most current BIOS. I checked the router and it's fine. I didn't do anything with restricting MAC's. It's just set to DHCP. Like I said, 2 other pc connect fine, one wired and one wireless.

Cleared the CMOS a couple of times. USB keyboards and mice won't work. Fortunately I had a ps/2 mouse and keyboard in the garage.

I'm just going to RMA it. too much wrong to be be my own stupidity.

Believe me, you won't offend me.

Could my processor be a problem? it's on old P4 3.4 ghz. I was going to hold off on getting a new cpu, but i just ordered a 6750. I'd much rather that be the problem and I could blame it on myself rather than Abit.
 
Sounds like a bad ground, or yes a bad motherboard.

I can't think why the CPU should affect the network connection & indeed not only the onboard NIC but also a PCI card & a wifi adapter (USB?).

I take it that you have tried rebooting the router?
 
yeah, tried rebooting the router. I took the whole thing apart to make sure I didn't have a bad connection somewhere. put it back together and now it won't post. It's back in the box to be returned. hopefully I'll have better luck with the next board.
