Haha catchy title wins....

My new media center PC. Asus Ma488t minitx, with AMD X2 250, 4gb of mushkin ddr3, and apivia 270w flexatx PS.

Of course I had to get it set up and give it a good burn in. I don't even have the case in yet:eek: I have it setup and running smp client. Which makes me wonder what the PPD will be. The good news is, the cpu is running at 27c (which seems pretty low) and its pulling 84watt from the wall.
I can't get over how tiny everything is, let the mini mowing begin!

Wow, with this beast you are going to give HK a run for his money on top of the ppd charts :p

Just set a HTPC up myself, told my wife it was for Blue-Ray...Sucker. Mine is up and folding but I had to drop the SMP client for the regular CPU client because I was having issues with it not being responsive enough. I hope to get a low profile crammed in the case.

Anyway, gratz on the purchase. Now it is time to get that thing crammed in a small case and get all your media ripped to it.

LOL I have a HP slimline case and bluray drive coming from ebay. And hopefully I'll be getting a low profile gt430 within the next week or so. If it will stay cool enough and not be too noisy, I'll drop smp and get my gpu3 action on. The x2 250 is close to the lowest of the dual cores, I'm not expecting much from it.

I was thinking of going with the gt 430 myself. I can get them localy for a decent price and I think I could get one in there. I'm just wondering if the 250w psu will give. I don't have a killawatt to check what I'm pulling now.

Funny, that's what I convinced my wife the Q6600 was for in our bedroom HTPC - the the sluggishness on hulu/netflix playback would be less with more cores...

Apevia PSU? I hope you have a fire extinguisher nearby.
I'm quite aware that you have very strong opinions regarding what you would consider (acceptable) power supplies.

So would you care to backup your statement? I would like proof that the power supply I bought is a risk to my equipment and my home. And if by some chance that my power supply is a firebomb waiting to happen, I'll return it and purchase another model.

I don't have any references for that model, but with Apevia it's a pretty safe bet that what you're getting is junk. Here's a review of one of their models: http://www.hardocp.com/article/2007/05/23/450w500w_psu_battle_royal/2

Having never seen an actually positive review for an Apevia product, I wouldn't trust one.
LOL, that may be the ugliest psu ever!
I take your point, that is a downright bad model. And I did notice that I never found ANY reviews for the model I'm using now. I'm just going to hope and see how mine does. So far so good though. Running at about 30% load, its still cold to the touch the fan is spinning but I can't hear it.

It's too bad I can't measure output voltages right now.

There are very few choices for ITX PSU units. Go ahead check around, there are about 5 brands and they all look identical so I'm willing to bet they are made by the same manufacturer. Edit: with the exception of FSP.

I'm not trying to stick up for the company, but for small builds there really is little choice. Right now until more players jump in the game we don't get the likes of Corsair, Silverstone, or Antec.

I agree about the PSU. I'm not sure you have a better option, so go with it.

Sweet little cruncher. How much room do you have in the case? You might want to upgrade to the AMD heatsink with the heatpipes. It cools a bit better, so the fan doesn't have to run as hard. It has a slightly better fan on it too.

BTW, I have an extra I'll give to you if you pay shipping.

I won't know until I get the mini tower in, but I may be able to fit a 1u server psu. If that's the case a lot of options will open up. Something like Seasonic SS-400H1U would be freaking sweet.

Edit* I'm getting 2100ppd folding a 6050. Go me!

I have an Athlon X2 250 in my fileserver and it gets about 2000-3000 PPD on the Linux SMP client.
