Last September, Blizzard decided to rebrand Battle.net as just the all encompassing "Blizzard" for all its services. Well now, the company has renege on the plan and is renaming it to just Blizzard Battle.net. Hopefully, this helps with the "occasional confusion and ineficiencies" some users were with having 20-year-old gaming service. Spoilers for next year, meet Activision's Blizzard Battle.net; now with Call of Duty and the latest Guitar Hero support.

When we announced that we'd be transitioning away from the Battle.net name for our online-gaming service, we suspected that the shift would be challenging. We understood that Battle.net stood for something special -- it represents years of shared history and enjoyment, community and friendship, for all of us and our players.

it made no sense when they announced it as I doubt anyone was confused about the name of their platform for 20 years.

"Shell Shock"

"Post tramatic Stress Disorder".

Companies that usually go through radical name changes exibit financial distress. Don't think Blizzard has that.

It's worked for 20 year, why change it,

I don't get it.

I feel like every year since Activision bought Blizzard out they've slowly destroyed part of what Blizzard special. It's not an outright gut, but a slow series of cuts that may end up with the same result. This is just another example of mindless meddling from Activision. At least this time they realize what they did wrong, but it really seems like the people who run a lot of the big publishers don't understand the game industry and are just throwing everything they have at a wall and seeing what sticks.

If that's the case surely it will get worse once Destiny 2 launches, that's bringing a whole new and very different group of people to the group and they do love to pander to the lowest common denominator

Most companies would pay millions to get a brand name as recognized as battle.net. A generic sounding "something something app" just doesn't cut it. Gets lost in the mooing herd of all of the other "something apps". Probably thought up by some executive's nephew who just joined the company with a freshly minted MBA.

I don't think the company has changed at all to be honest. I've gone to Blizzcon and they are the same people as always.

So blizzard thinks we are a bunch of idiots and this would cause problems for us. Nothing new there.

Actually, they are right. We ARE a bunch of idiots if you've ever encountered the average Heroes of the Storm player.

The days they might have wanted to rebrand bnet would have been about 15 years ago after years of network splits during the SC and Diablo2 days.

i think its blizzard fighting with activision for putting non-blizzard games on the service. This is blizzard peeing on it and saying you see this this is MINE KEEP YOUR DAMN SHIT OFF OF IT
