I've been at this for a while and I still get no where. This works in fine FireFox, and IE 5.5. But will not work worth a damn in IE 6 XP SP2. If I goto to: www.microsoft.com and click on "Clip Art" or "Templates" I've got a redirect to the correct page mabye once, every other time it does NOT work.

The message box that comes up is:

"Do you want to save this file?"

Name: default.aspx
Unknown File Type
office.microsoft.com"

Making a new filetype entry in associations does absolutely nothing. It's something with the browser from what I can tell. I run no filtering software that blocks anything. Security controls are fine, etc. If you further check out where the address for Clip Art leads it's:

Ever since I've installed SP2 for XP I've had this problem. There are no updates for IE/patches that I don't already have either. That same box keeps coming up with the "Save File" when it's SUPPOSE to redirect to the link. Any ideas? Thanks

I dunno. No problems w/ IE6/SP2 for that page on my end. In this particular case, have you just tried the URL supplied in the error page?
//edit: also, you might consider attempting to reinstall IE if you're set on using that, or switch to a better and more secure browser like Firefox or Opera

I agree entirely.. that post couldn't possibly have helped Anyone :) haha

but.. i ALso agree about using a better browser.. as IE has got proven major security flaws that are Still unresolved, and Firefox or Opera are a lot quicker also...
Firefox is entirely free though, and part of the GPL, and so i fully suggest anyone using IE at least give it a try..
 
warcraft50, it sounds as if the file association for a .aspx is not present on your computer.

I tried it on a computer at my home with SP2, and both links worked fine.

Try this.

Start > Run > Type in regedit

expand the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT folder, and browse down till you find .aspx
If you Do not have a folder for this (which is one of my guesses), then that means windows consideres it an unknown File type, and just tries to download it.

There should be a folder called .aspx if there is'nt, create one.
In that folder, there should be 2 REG_SZ items.
Name: (Default) Type: REG_SZ Data: (value not set)
Name: PerceivedType Type: REG_SZ Data: text

There also might be a sub folder to .aspx called PersistentHandler , but im not sure if that's required.

Thanks for all the replies everyone. I checked in my proxy settings for the hell of it, and it was using 127.0.0.1:8080 ..I found a copy of a popup blocker installed, I deleted it a couple days ago, or so I thought. Works fine now!
