I'd not care about her views in general, but this goes beyond that now: This was her direct response to criticism, so it is relevant to the game.I don't care about what the actress says
Her toxic nonsense is a direct reflection of Naughty Dog. They knew exactly who they were hiring, and based on their stupidity sprinkled throughout TLOU2, the HBO show, and Neil Druckmann's borderline retarded comments in general, it's clear what direction the company is going in. If you're still interested in this slop after everything that's happened, is currently happening, and will continue to happen, then you're a part of the problem. Consumers can make a change, and we do that by speaking with our wallets, and lately ... it's been very effective. We're starting to make waves. Companies can't keep doing this garbage forever or they'll be out of business. Some already have gone out of business.I don't care about what the actress says. But we all know she was likely chosen for her role for a specific reason (ideology) and it wasn't necessarily her acting talent even if she can act just fine. Regardless her views reflect poorly on the game itself. I still have interest in the game because I can care less about this person's thoughts but of course, it dampens my interest further. And I think many will feel the same, and it will probably result in lower sales.
At least the BF5 developer was more up front and told people not to buy the game.
They will never respond that way. They will continue to double down on their idiocy and blame gamers for their horrible decisions and pandering.I'd not care about her views in general, but this goes beyond that now: This was her direct response to criticism, so it is relevant to the game.
How they should've responded to criticism: "We are sorry you don't like it so far, but please give it a chance, it will make sense once the full narrative is revealed! We are really proud of what we are making and think it is an amazing story."

No, no, no, no, no, that is not true. People were criticizing her character's in game appearance, I haven't seen a single person attacking her IRL looks. In fact I've seen quite a few on twitter say that she looks pretty IRL, blaming Druckmann and Naughty Dog for the the treatment they gave her.Well in her defense, people have been attacking her online for her appearance, it's only human to want to react, and she's young. Yeah the professional thing would be to either say nothing or be less antagonist but jeez cut her some slack. I might have done something similar if I were in her shoes and I bet some of you guys would of too.
Exactly. They uglified her for no reason, much like Star Wars Outlaws. This seems to be a common practice these days. No, no, no, no, no, that is not true. Despite the trailer, I still had hope that Naughty Dog would balance the story and make it approachable and reletable for rest of the population. This type of messaging is making me very pessimistic about the game. I will be super sad if Naughty Dog choses to self destructHere's the lead voice actress' response to the backlash on her socials:

This about sums up everyone's concerns with the actress. She's even dumber than I had previously thought. The list of games I'll never purchase continues to grow. It's so "DEI" licious. These idiots need to stop being hired. People that hate gamers should really stop making games. This is getting quite old.
That to me seems like splitting hairs but understoodNo, no, no, no, no, that is not true. I think they are this brazen because TLOU2 still did relatively well on sales after a similar backlash. But there are many small but important differences here. The backlash for TLOU2 only started after the leak which was only a few weeks before release. By then most people had already put in their pre-orders. And the wave of negativity hadn't reached everyone before release, as it was more meta instead being directly part of their marketing strategy. Gamers are also more on their toes now, we realized that "subverting expectations" just means deliberately doing things they know the core audience won't like. But they are in for a rude awakening imo., unless they reverse course. I don't project a Concord / Dustborn level failure, but I doubt they can exceed Veilguard's sales performance with this attitude.Despite the trailer, I still had hope that Naughty Dog would balance the story and make it approachable and reletable for rest of the population. hence: never pre-order.most people had already put in their pre-orders.

She's not a supermodel, but she's not ugly. She just frequently chooses to get ugly, stupid, and woke haircuts. They 100% made her significantly less attractive in this game. You don't need to gaslight anyone in here. We all have eyes.

Well, they figured it out. What really makes her ugly is her personality. She's a vile human being. I personally don't think she looks ugly IRL, but her attitude does, and it's impossible to get past how insufferable she is. She has the exact same douchey vibe about her as Amandla Stenberg.Hard to uglify someone who is already ugly. She looks like a literal clown.
I agree. It's actually very jarring seeing an actor in a video game. It kind of pulls me out of the fantasy aspect of the game. Having said that, even if they use a completely different looking character to the VA, these idiots will still make them ugly, because they don't want to offend the handful of women that don't even play their games. We need to go back to using unique designs, and not basing game characters directly off of actors and voice actors. Push the actors/voice actors back into the shadows, where they belong. Let their voice work in game do the talking. Leave the character design to the character designers, and not the actors/SJWs in leadership positions.

Western game devs can always do worse.Hard to uglify someone who is already ugly.
Yes, the way she dresses and the makeup she wears makes her look like a clown. That doesn't mean she is ugly though. She looks like a literal clown.
She wasn't ugly either. I don't want to show what's ugly for the sake of the thread, but your threshold for ugly is way out of proportion.I prefer the Private Vasquez (from Aliens) look over how Tati looks in real life.
That's a funny one as female characters usually don't really look like their real life counterparts nowadays, and the wokosos will insists the technology is not good enough to make them look like they look IRL, ignoring all male characters who are dead on. In this particular case the body of the protagonist literally looks like a sack of potatoes. That's 100% deliberate, and not just a poor attempt at copying reality. I think the face is different also, but it is not so obvious.Contrary to what developers tell you, game character models don't have to look exactly like the actor/actress, and Naughty Dog could have used this voice actress but given her a less ugly design.
I agree, making video game characters appear like actors / actresses is throwing out creative freedom. It's completely unnecessary. Except, well for the reason mentioned here. They can deflect any criticism of character design by saying "It is based on a real person, chud" Like that's an excuse. I mean why won't they have Daniel Radcliffe play Conan the Barbarian in live action then?I've mentioned the downsides of basing video game characters off of actors physical looks long ago and people defended it because they liked see the same person across multiple movies (and now games) for some reason. That has always been a downside if live action movies. There are not enough talented actors in the business and most will want to work on more than one movie so inevitably we would see the same person prop up in an entirely different film breaking immersion. This is another side affect; they will pick an actor who looks a certain way and they justify they want to faithfully recreate said actor in their game. Another is the actors have a larger presence and feel the need to make more commentary and make the game more about themselves.
It can also be immersion breaking to me when a very prominent voice actor voices different characters in different franchises. It is somehow more jarring than just having the likeness of an actor. I think the future of VA is AI as it will allow to create completely unique voices that are one offs only used for one particular role and nowhere else. No matter how much the VA unions screech this will happen. Obviously we already had that with models until they started copying actors for no good reason. We need to go back to using unique designs, and not basing game characters directly off of actors and voice actors. I'm talking about the phenomenon where they change the appearance from the real world model / actor, but insist it is not deliberate.Which is my point. They don't have to look exactly like the actors. They can change the look entirely, like it has historically been done.

It is clearly ideologically driven, they do everything in their power to defeminize female characters without outright making them men. The only thing that is up for debate still is whether they are doing it to fight against the "evil male gaze", or to validate the men who identify as women. I believe it used to be the former exclusively going back as far as 2014, then it slowly morphed into the latter. Now it is serving both purposes.I misunderstood then. Yes, I do not understand that.
I wonder why they ditched Clean Cut Nathan Drake and went with Gi Jane? The fact that she's shaving her head at the start is silly in the 2024 trailer.
a woman with a shaved head portrays toughness and strength
No, a woman with toughness and strength portrays toughness and strength. Stop confusing a haircut with depth.a woman with a shaved head portrays toughness and strength
That was true before Amy Hennig was pushed out by Neil Druckman.Naughty Dog is Sony's golden child. They can do no wrong! /s
Since there is no clear criteria for what is a failure the shills will insist it is actually a success no matter what.I don't think this game will fail
They're doing this with Ghost of Yotei now that sales numbers leaked out. It sold 16% less than Tsushima, but the install base is 27% smaller (80 million PS5s compared to 110 million PS4s), so that means it's a bigger success.Since there is no clear criteria for what is a failure the shills will insist it is actually a success no matter what.
But the real decisions are made behind closed doors at SONY. And I'm certain they won't be happy with the performance of intergalactic. Naughty Dog is already on notice due to the cancelled last of us 2 multiplayer and then the cancelled stand alone multiplayer game in the last of us universe.
I just hope It's Druckmann's ass on the chopping block when this fails to meet expectations. Not because I wish ill. to him personally, but hoping he might get replaced by someone competent and not antagonistic towards gamers.
They are doing it with virtually everything. As if revenue / install base was ever a metric investors cared about. Never mind the fact that TLOU2 sold 4 million copies in the same time it took TLOU to sell 1 million in spite of all the negative coverage prior to launch. Compared to that Ghost of Yotei would be underperforming even if it was selling at 2x speed as Tsutsima. Highly anticipated sequels sell much quicker than their original counterparts due to having an already established fanbase. It doesn't need word of mouth. Yotei is a dismal failure but the shills will never admit it, their world view depends on it.They're doing this with Ghost of Yotei now
TLOU2 may have sold quicker, but it also hit the ceiling quicker. It's especially bad when the remaster of the first game sold 80% more copies than the sequel. Between that and the original, the first game sold 160% more than the sequel. 26 million versus 10 million. It seems Sony faces this problem with nearly all their modern sequels. They are doing it with virtually everything. As if revenue / install base was ever a metric investors cared about. That's completely irrelevant to my point, I'm just using it to demonstrate how the sequel to a highly acclaimed game should be performing at release.TLOU2 may have sold quicker, but it also hit the ceiling quicker. It's especially bad when the remaster of the first game sold 80% more copies than the sequel.
The first one also got re-released like five times, plus has a 7 year head start. I think there are plenty of people who purchased TLOU 2-3 times over if not more.Between that and the original, the first game sold 160% more than the sequel. 26 million versus 10 million.
The difference between TLOU2 and Yotei is that TLOU2 sales only fell off due to negative reception of the game. But with Yotei people were already disinterested before launch. It seems Sony faces this problem with nearly all their modern sequels.
