I've noticed a few threads displaying Intel's market slip and decreasing profits, and then theres the fact that theres so much riding on these next-generation chips such as Conroe which may boost sales significantly.

Would it be a smart investment opportunity to invest in Intel stock while it's in a slump, and maybe see decent returns on the release of these new CPU's?

Mod Edit - ...it's an interesting thread, but it's off topic for the "Intel Processors" forum. Thanks - BlindedByScience

A little late... but I was pondering the same thing... as long as intels stock has been down is about as long as the suckass p4 has been around ... (sorry no offensive but... yeah) anyways I was thinking about investing a few thousand if it hits 15$

well I bought a few shares @ $19. so I've already lost as it slipped to 18. some analysts think it will hit 16 after the recent amd/dell news. that could be enough to cast doubt, and keep intc below $20, as int/amd may approach 50/50 if dell becomes a huge source of revenue for amd.
a lot of doubt

Intel has always been one of Wall Streets favorite stocks and only recently (within the last 6 months) has AMD been starting to really get recognition from the street. Intel has taken several hits to drive it's price down low and doesn't need a spectacular series of products to regain its stock value. All they need is a moderate to strong showing and their stocks will be right up there again. The worried investors that jumped from Intel will come flooding back to the tech industry's "barometer".

Personally, I think this would be a good time to buy a few hundred shares. Intel isn't going anywhere so if you plan to hold the stocks for a long time, this would be a great time to invest. If you are a day trader or short term, I don't know if this is the best stock to pick right now.

Edit: One more thing, I believe both AMD and Intel stocks are trading lower than normal right now in large part because of the delay of MS Vista. This has caused a slowdown in PC purchases across the board. Getting into either stock is a good move if you plan to hold it at least a year.

i agree with you right up to the point where you say AMD is trading lower than normal. imho they are overvalued right now because everyone thinks they have a bright future. my feeling is that intel stock will suffer until they have a good quarter, and then will shoot up like a rocket. AMD on the other hand will shoot up as soon as the market rebounds from the past week's dip, but fall sharply after intel puts the pricing squeeze on them with Core 2.

my advice is AMD for short term, intc FTW.

Its a great buy at 18.xx

Long-term Intel is going to continue to do very well, especially once it ramps up Conroe chips. Its cash rich. The AMD/Dell deal is nothing. Its only for 4 processor servers. And by the time Dell actually starts really selling them, they'll be pushing the Conroe based Xeons.

Its going to have a great 4th quarter with Conre, Merom & Woodcrest all launched.

If I had a few grand laying around I'd buy Intel Stock LOL! Like when AMD's was at about $3.00. Now is the time to buy, it has nowhere to go but up. W-C-M and even the improved P4's, Yonah/V//V and etc., is being way underestimated. AMD returns will whither away. There prices as they stand right now is wayyyyyy too high and too much of the Products are still at 90nm so they CAN'T cut prices and stay profitable.

Common Sense, what do you buy, $316 Conroe 2.4GHz? or a $347 AM2 X2 2GH 4000+?
All up and down the Product line looks the same.
