Thinking of buying Intel 80GB Gen2 SSD off of the FS/FT section and wondering where I would stand with warranty.

Looking at Intel's site, for OEM drives they only give the option to contact the reseller. On Newegg, it is listed that their OEM drives have a 3 year warranty with Intel???

If they will warranty an OEM drive, would I need a receipt or do they just warranty the drive like Western Digital?

when the first firmware released that bricked everyone's drives, mine also died and i called them for a replacement. they did not ask for receipt or proof of purchase

I'm thinking that as long as it didn't come from an OEM machine like a Dell or HP I'm probably OK but I would like some more testimonials if I can get them about Intel warranty experience with SSD's.

Haven't had any issues with mine, but I didn't hear of any issues when people had to seek replacements after that faulty firmware update the above poster alluded to...I'm sure there were plenty of OEM drives in that bunch, I'd feel a lil' better if anyone else that had said issues could share their experience tho. :D

The next SSD I'm gonna buy is probably gonna be an OCZ (Solid 2 or Agility), but only because I need more than 80GB for a low price, since it'll be a gift for my sister's laptop. I'm thinking she'll be way more comfortable w/120GB than 80GB on a laptop that's her main/only system (tho she has a 1TB external and several smaller ones).

If the store where I bought an Intel SSD goes "out of business",
is the warranty (3 or 5 years) still valid in case the SSD goes haywire?

Where do I RMA if still valid? To USA?

Only asking because I bought a Dell monitor (still working) and the store went bankrupt.

unlike a HDD, which has a basically unpredictable life spam, a SSD has a fixed number of write cycles over each NAND cell.

That means that while a 1 year old used HDD may have 1-4 years of life ahead, an used SSD will be much more "degraded".

I would never buy an used SSD.Period.

That's not even close to being correct

Who's talking about an used SSD?
