Intel SSD or 6950 crossfire?

So I was at an intel company training and they were raffling some parts. I ended up winning an intel 520 series 180gb SSD.

So my question is, in your opinion, do you think I should keep it or sell it and buy another 6950 to crossfire with my current one? Or even try to sell my current 6950 too and just upgrade to a newest generation card? Lastly, maybe hold off until the next gen cards when there is a bigger performance gap?


Computer is used for general purposes with heavy gaming. Currently I don't have problems with any games so I'm looking more towards the future. The most taxing games I plan on playing the future will probably be Day-Z and GTA. Obviously how taxing those games will be aren't known.

Current build: i5-2500k, 1TB Caviar black HDD, Asus P8-Z68-V Mobo, 8GB of Corsair Vengeance 1600 ram, 27" hp monitor at 1080p

I'd keep the SSD, if you don't already have one as your specs indicate. 180GB is big enough for Windows and a number of other programs.

1 6950 is still enough to run any game out there at 1080p with good settings.

I have a 240GB 520 SSD - loved every minute of using it - the SSD is definitely a keeper

That's a great SSD, and you'll be very happy with the performance boost for general PC usage. Upgrade your GPU when Sea Islands comes out in a couple of months.

Yea this is the main reason I haven't pulled the trigger in a 2nd 6950. I find the problems some people have, on and off depending on the game they're playing, a bit worrisome. As recommended I'll probably wait for the new release of graphic cards when the performance gap from mine is bigger.

Nope, I don't have one in my rig yet. I keep hearing how great SSDs are. I think maybe I'll give this one a go and find out for myself what all the talk is about.

SSD all the way if the 6950 is keeping you happy. Once you go ssd you can't go back and you can then hold out till next gen's gpu's as I predict the ssd will keep you very happy and distract you from the idea of a new gpu .
