Thinking of buying a new notebook and one i'm looking at has the option for either a T2390 (1.86GHz / 1MB L2) Dual-Core or T5750 Core 2 Duo (2.0GHz / 2MB L2). Both appear to be 65 nm chips but the T5000 series appears to have some additional features related to power consumption (http://www.intel.com/products/centrino/compare.htm).

Would one expect any noticeable difference re: battery life between the two?

Nope. The T5750 just uses an extra 4W compared to the T2390. Not noticeable at all.
