Intel Pro/1000 PT vs CT

- Receive-side scaling (RSS) (not on the PT)

- 9 KB jumbo frames (not supported on the PT)

- Teaming support (not supported on the PT controller)

- Interrupt moderation (no option on the PT)

- Tx/Rx IP (not supported on the PT)

- PCI Express 1.1 (2.5 GT/s) (PCI Express 1.0a on the PT)

- Supports INTA, MSI, MSI-X Interrupt Levels (INTA only on the PT)

- Intel 82574L Controller (Intel 82572GI on the PT)

- 1.9W Typcial Power Consumption (3.3W on the PT)

so in tech terms, yes the CT is better.

Something I cannot understand why is the PT twice in price of the CT, if CT is better.
Thank you

Happens all the time when old hardware is no longer being manufactured and some demand remains the price goes up. The PT might still be on the spec sheets for specific hardware builds.

Exactly, good ole supply and demand in action

And I just bought 2 PTs because I didn't know the CTs existed.

Great, I thought they did teaming and jumbo frames, but it turns out they do neither. Awesome!

Edit: Upon further investigation it appears the 82572GI chipset supports Link Aggregation (802.3ad) and Jumbo Frames like I thought. They just aren't listed as features.

According to the intel specsheet the GT which I have in one of my machines does not support interrupt moderation as well as jumbo frames however it does allow me to enable it in the driver.

Intel have changed the documentation on their site, I see they currently show per chipset (much more confusing) whilst previously they had pdf documents listing the features of the actual card model names and the PT I clearly remember was the same as the GT with 2 differences. First been it was pci express rather than just pci and the second been it supported slightly more offloading. I am a bit sceptical about these newly released tech sheets.

I was looking for the desktop version of the PT for this machine, but couldnt find it, as you guys have pointed out its an obselete model it probably explains why. But I am also finding it hard to find the CT version.

--edit--

here we go a screenshot of the old pdf, clearly showing the PT supports all the features that people were saying the CT does.
