Intel or AMD, buy now or wait?

I'm planning on buying a new rig (tower only) in around 4 weeks (depending on the buy now or wait clause) with a budget of around ~$1350 +/- $100 (pre-tax). The computer will be geared towards gaming, with a flavor towards using it for my job which requires 2-3 monitor support side-by-side. I don't need it any earlier than 4 weeks from now, so I'm wondering if a) I should wait for the new amd chipsets, and b) if I should wait until Windows 8 is released (which is probably too far away).

I have Vista64 to tie me over until W8, so its not that big of a deal, even though I'd like an opinion on it. My main concern is over the new AMD chipsets vs the i7 intel chipsets. What should I do?
 
Are you planning on building your own?

Win 7 is great, no reason to wait until windows 8 which is still probably at least a year away.
 
Windows 8 is too far away to bother waiting for. AMD's new chipsets are technically already out: the 990X and 990FX chipsets. AMD's new CPUs are supposedly due out on October 12th, well within your purchase date 4 weeks from now.

Unless you're planning on doing a ton of video or 3D editing/rendering, zero reason for you to get the Core i7 CPUs besides wanting a larger epeen or you really love wasting money. You should be fine with the Core i5 if buying now. As for whether or not to switch to AMD, I cannot say because AMD's Bulldozer CPUs aren't out yet. Can't comment when no official information has been released on the actual performance of those CPUs compared to Intel CPUs.
 
What it comes down too is this. If you want to buy now, go with the i5, you won't regret it, if you want to build in 2 weeks, hope that bulldozer is out... again, and check back then. either way, get an SSD for maximum speed:). Also, if windows 8 doesnt bring much over the stupid metro bar, I don't even see a reason to go windows 8 over 7.
 
AMD processor has good reputation and Intel motherboard also has good reputation. Upgrading operating system may not strong effect on current pc.
 
What's more strenuous on your system, gaming or your job? (Don't worry about multiple monitors as an increased resolution alone isn't that strenuous.)
