Hello,

Someone can call me stupid for not understanding this by myself, but I must say that after reading the Intel Matrix Storage Technology information and also checking the topic on the web, I still do not understand if there is or there isn't a way to install the Intel Matrix Storage Technology drivers - which I need for AHCI, not using RAID - after the OS (Windows XP professional to be precise) has been installed in compatibility mode.

To make a long story short, I installed Windows XP in IDE compatibility mode, thinking that this way I will be able to skip through the unpleasant floppy disk F6 method, and now I would like to install the Intel Matrix Storage driver from the working XP installation, and then modify the setting in BIOS from compatibility to AHCI. Needless to say that if I modify the BIOS setting now, all I get is the BSOD on XP startup...
Problem is whenever I try to install the Intel Matrix Storage app., I get a pretty cryptic message saying that my computer does not meet the minimum requirements...I do not know what that means because I have a ASUS P5B-e motherboard whose chipset should be supported, so I suspect that I HAD TO INSTALL the SATA drivers along with the OS using the F6 method...installing the drivers from the working OS just doesn't cut it...

Could someone please help me?I'm crazy till I get those 5% real life speed improvment from NCQ...;)

...
Ok, for those who read my "story" and are interested in the solution themself, here is how I solved the problem - let's start by saying I did not have to reinstall Windows XP. So, if you cannot install the Intel Matrix Storage Drivers from the OS because you did not install Windows XP on native mode SATA drive(AHCI) with the help of the F6 method, all you need to do is this:
1.extract the driver files from the Matrix Storage installer (you do this running the installer with the options -A - P <path>).
2.go to device manager, look for the IDE controller, chose update drivers and do not let windows search for drivers. Just go manually all the way and choose the extracted drivers. Ignore all warnings:)
3.Best of luck!

:D

Technically, Intel Matrix Storage Manager is only compatible with Intel boards, not the Chipset, thats why you get the error message.

But as you can see there are workarounds.

Huh, someone didnt tell my Gigabyte that. Sorry man, your information is incorrect.

NICE JOB florinelt, I am going to file that away in case I miss the F6 prompt or get caught without a floppy drive. Great info.

huh... good to know. everything i have read says you cannot change from IDE to AHCI, period. i've tried it even with the drivers installed, and tried to go from AHCI to IDE... no dice. i'll have to try this!
