Does Intel usually hard launch their new cpu´s?
If I read it right next week will be the kick off for some new quads right?
Does the presentation usually coincide with availability ?
if not how long until you will be able to get your hand on a nice little quad 6600:p

No clue. But I'm also waiting for the Q6600 and pretty interested to hear about any dates.

Like the Core 2's and the Q6700, there be on retailers like Newegg anywhere from a couple days to two weeks or so. The Core 2's hit Newegg I believe 3 or 4 days after the NDA expired and the Q6700 took about a week and a half to two weeks to go on Newegg if my memory serves me right.

cool...maybe there will be one in my rig before the end of Jan!
me holding my thumbs for release next week! and then a couple of days for shipping...so on monday 15 Jan then!

Q6400,E4300,E6420,E6320 are the procs I am interested in,in that order.Too bad the first, and the latter two wont be available until April or May.

I read that the q6600 could be priced at 530-550 but I am not hoping to much..hate being let down :)

There is always something better around the corner...but I hope that the Q6600 will keep me for atleast until -08. But one never knows...hopefully AMD will become competative again..and bring these prices down even more!

/me is planning on doing a C2D build, and upgrading to a quad in about 3 months. more power FTW!

The Q6600 will be in the 800 dollar range until Q2 2007 when it will drop to 550ish.

Traditionally, no, Intel does not hard launch to resellers. Intel usually hard launches to Dell, then the other OEMs, and after a couple weeks we finally start seeing them on places like Newegg.

Was it not xbitlabs that had a story that stated that the price would be 530?
hopefully they are right!
but I have not seen that price anywhere else :(

I think pricing for the Q6600 starts are $800, and would be lowered to $500 to combat the release of K8L.
Sad to see Intel go the way of greedy old AMD on the pricing. :(

I think neither Intel nor AMD invented "greedy" pricing. I think the inventor was the first person, who noticed that his or her product was superior to the competition and required the customers to pay a premium for this.

Well, if you are looking for a $500 some quad core, you will have to to wait another three months. Right now, they are definitely more. ZipZoomFly already has the q6600 listed here. Crappy price, however ($989).

The lowest Quad Core will sell regardless of price because most of us will simpy OC the holy hell out of it. Like what most are doing now out of the Core 2 Duo E6300 =). Won't miss it at all since I can order the card right through my Palm Treo 700p lmao. Work a Midnight - Eight shift so gotta have that handy on me.

I don't think I've ever seen Intel or AMD do a "hard launch." Availability is usually several weeks after they're announced and the first reviewers get theirs. ATI and NVIDIA have been doing hard launches because the enthusiast market is a bigger piece of their pie than Intel's.

Intel kept the greedy pricing to a VERY respectable level with the launch of their Core 2 parts; $200 for the E6300 at launch and it rapidly fell to $180.

Can't say the same for the ridiculous pricing on A64-X2 parts at launch. Cost as much as a friggin' FX processor, and they were only marginally faster than the Pentium Ds.

heavyh2o: where'd you get those prices? i wanna see how much an e6600 will go for with a comparable price drop. cheap hardware FTW :D.

The pricing info is pretty much everywhere. But, the graphics are from Dailytech. Here is the pricing of other chips, as well.

I reaaaallly like the looks of that E6420. 2.13GHz and the full 4MB of cache. Now if they only overclock good.

Your joking about all of this right? Do I really need to take you back to the AMD XP days? Please dont act like Intel has never price gouged before and like amd has never sold a high quality cpu for cheap.

Yea it sure looks nice, both the 6420 and the 6600 after the pricecut will be something to pick up!

Bummer about the prices ...well I guess I will have to wait until the pricecut then..I hate buying stuff that I know will be more or less half price in 2-3 months!

I dont think the q6600 will sell that good..its alittle bit to close to the next level I think..and with the pricecuts already staked out..it will be $320 less in 2-3 months...if the charts are telling the truth..

Intel may have price gouged a bit back in the Northwood days, but they weren't asking no $999 MSRP for an X2 4800+ or $750 for a 4400+.

eum...ok..now its monday....where is the launch? :)
I see nothing anywhere...but maybe it too early..
the only site I see is ZZF with a q6600...and they have had it up for a week or so..
nothing on newegg or clubit...
did I miss something??

Usually [H] has their reviews up in the morning. So... maybe it's next Monday??

Well [H] is located in Texas but its just a new cpu model, I wouldnt expect a review or anything unless they already stated that they would be making one. I say give it a few more hrs before we jump the gun and start calling Intel out on some paper launch.

Even still theres no guarantee that these new models are going to e-tailers before they go to OEM builders first. Its probably best to check out Dell and the likes while looking online for these new cpus to see if they are launching today.

hehe well its like showing a bag of candy to your kids...and then not giving them any :D
me want, me want ,me want NOW DADDY!!

anyway...its a couple of hours still...so I guess we will have to wait and see

<Sigh>...here we go again with all this nonsense about greed and price gouging.

1). Capitalism dictates you make as much money as possible as a corporation for the sake of your investors and the company. If people are willing to buy a 4800+ for $999, then AMD can charge it. If consumers aren't willing to pay that much, then it won't sell, and AMD would be forced to drop their prices. Just because you don't like the price and think that it should be lower doesn't mean anything in the grand scheme of things (unless your real name is Michael Dell). Unfortunately, the one at a time CPU buyer is pretty much irrelevant. Both you and I and most everyone else on this forum fall into this category.

2). AMD's price structure is (at least as long as I can remember) subject to Intel's pricing. AMD's pricing on X2's was a direct result of relative price/performance compared to Intel's comparable processors. The 965EE still sells for well over $900, yet was easily beaten by low end AMD CPU's. Was Intel being "greedy" in light of AMD's processors? Intel used their brand name and market share numbers to convince people to buy "inferior" processors at the time. When the C2D's came out, AMD was forced to cut pricing to maintain their price/performance with comparable Intel CPU's. This is the way Intel and AMD pricing has always been, and will be until AMD has a larger market share. If you don't like AMD's prices, you should really criticize Intel.

3). I don't think the official price of either the 4800+ or the 4400+ was anywhere near what you're saying. Retailers price gouging is different than either AMD or Intel price gouging. Retailers price gouging also relates to point #1 above.

4). Your only vote in this process comes by either choosing not to purchase processors at prices you consider to be "greedy" or invest in Intel/AMD and theoretically have a share of stockholder benefits that come from others like you purchasing processors at "greedy" rates.

5). I am sorry if you don't have enough expendible resources to purchase the processor you desire. Personally, I'd like to have a QX6700, but I don't really feel like paying $1100 for it. So I bought the best processor I could afford instead. I'm sure I'm not the first one to tell you this, but life isn't fair. Some people have more money than others, they have nicer things, and they pay whatever the going rate is driving up prices for the rest of us. That's just the way it is, and we all deal with it.

Intel may have price gouged a bit back in the Northwood days, but they weren't asking no $999 MSRP for an X2 4800+ or $750 for a 4400+.

Any gouging Intel did with regards to Northwood was primarily at the higher end with the original (non-HT) Northwoods, and there was actually a reason for that: Intel was also trying to clear inventory of Williamette-series P4s. The high price for the first HT Northwood (P4 3.06 Northwood-B) makes sense in retrospect (it is this processor that was the predecessor of Intel's Extreme Edition line, and was priced accordingly); however, low launch pricing on the all-HT Northwood-C line more than made up for it.

yea the price really is a joke for now!
and with the already announced price cut of 40% in Q2...its hard to motivate a buy atm :(

The only problem is the Q2 is a 3 month period. So, if it is cut to $530 in June, that is still Q2.
