Jen-Hsun Huang, CEO of NVIDIA, calls Intel’s sales strategy “most aggressive” in regards to the graphics chip market. He vented his complaints to CNET about the pricing that Intel uses with Atom third-party licensing vs. Intel’s own bundles. Intel fired back, saying that Huang is “playing a trick of numbers.”

"Intel's tactics with Ion have been the most aggressive we've seen from a competitor. They have offered the Atom [a total of three chips] for $25, but when the one-chip Atom is used with Ion, it sells for $45," Nvidia CEO Jen Hsun Huang said in a statement provided to CNET. "A customer can't even choose to resell the chipset and use Ion instead. What's the point of Nvidia getting an Intel bus license if it's impossible to overcome Intel's pricing bundles?" he asked, referring the licensing fee that Nvidia pays Intel.

Wow that's just ridiculously unfair! How would Intel and AMD like it if Nvidia created a proprietary physics platform then totally locked everyone else out!?? HUH???

Oh wait....

These are Microsoft type common practices. There is a lot of little conflicts like that. You have to remember that this is evolving technology and we're making the rules up as we go along. ;)
Jim

what the hell is it with you and that link!?

anyhow, it's business as usual. nVidia has TWIMTBP, Intel has licensing fees. (AMD doesn't have the leverage to do this kind of stuff).

whoop-de-do. The only difference we will ever see are higher prices, no matter what happens.

I thought Nvidia was done with Intel. Oh, they still need them?
They've suspended new chipset development pending the results of their DMI/QPI bus litigation; but I'm sure they want to be able to continue selling chipsets with GPUs that are moderately faster than whatever intel puts on die.

If nVidia wants to create a closed physics platform I'm fine with that. Personally I just get annoyed when you have an nVidia card that is perfectly capable of doing PhysX but then their driver detects an AMD card too so they disable PhysX anyway. You KNOW if Intel said "We've detected an nVidia videocard, you can no longer use our processor at full speed." nVidia would scream bloody murder about how unfair Intel is being.

Basically Jen Hsun Huang operates on a level of - "If I do it to somebody else, that's ok. If you do it to me though that's wrong!" He can't seem to pick - does he believe companies should hold themselves to business/moral standards, or go all out for profit no matter what it takes? nVidia's actions say he believes profit at all costs, but then his constant whining about Intel makes you think he believes in business standards. I wonder if he even realizes what a hypocrite he sounds like?

Even with the markup it's still worth it not to have one of Intel's craptacular GPUs.

Their current chipsets are IMO much worse than Intels - NV have better IGP but when Intel rlease Larabee they will likely create ne IGP based on it which will be enough to compete against IGPs from AMD and NV.

if Intel iGPU worked better with video decoding, it might draw a lither less flak.

But as of now, it just doesn't really cut it.

But we do have to remember, Intel's business customers just don't care for gaming performance, nor video accelleration.

This guy runs a software company what does he care about Intel's graphics business? Intel only makes crappy low end graphics anyhow, that is all they will ever make. Nvidia makes mid and high end graphics chips (even though they are a software company). Even the low end Nvidia chips blow the Intel chips away. They are two different products. If Nvidia wants to compete with Intel graphics then they need to make an equally craptacular and super cheap integrated graphics chip.

Wait...I thought nV makes their money with low end graphics chips too? :p

nVidia tries to be in the news and they like doing so by being an eccentric company

They talk too much nowadays. They should stick to engineering and let their products do the talk

How else can Intel make up for the inferior nature of their solution. It supports less and slower memory configs than ION and of course the GPU from Intel is total shit so, hey, they gotta push their ancient crapware somehow!

LEAVE INTEL ALONE!!!!!

:)

Uh... you know you've gotta have an x86 license to integrate chips on a CPU, right? And you also know Nvidia does not have an x86 license, right?

Of course Intel's strategy concerns NVIDIA. Intel appears to be serious about launching a competitive graphics product in the near future.

I know the above comment isn't fair, but I couldn't help but have a jab!!!
