Currently available in China for RMB 1299 (converts to $190) as part of bundle with Biostar T-Series TP45E motherboard, the E6500K is expected to retail soon for US $89. Incidentally, the "K" in E6500K refers to "black" in digital imaging jargon.

i'm quite surprised at this move by intel for an unlocked chip in the sub $100. usually unlocked CPU's are only reserved for extreme editions for benchers, which is around $1000.

i hope this trend continues. would love to buy chip and be able to over clock it by multiplier and FSB
 
$89 for a Wolfdale-2M 2.93GHz with an unlocked multiplier isn't bad. I'd probably get one if Fry's has a combo deal for under $120.

Good news for current LGA775 owners.

I happen to be in the market for a new system though, so I'll be sticking with AMD this time around for future upgradeability. Sorry Intel!

Looks like it is only being sold in asia as a test market product. Never is a possibility unless someone in asia sells it here.

tell him to look for one for me also :D. if he finds it, tell him i'll pay him first, then he can buy it. however i doubt he'll be able to find and purchase these because as said before, these are pretty rare chips.
 
only 2mb cache sorta sucks.

I'll replace my e5200 with one of these and sell the e5200.
